2022 Parent Information

The College has compiled a document titled 2022 Parent Information Guide that provides parents with easy access to common topics that would usually be communicated at the Parent Information Evenings. The document is divided into sections - College website, College Diary and SEQTA Documents indicating the location of the information.

Further year group specific information will be provided by ADPs in the coming weeks.

Solidarity Fridays

As we are all aware the flooding in New South Wales and Queensland has had a devastating impact on those communities. As members of a strong supportive Catholic community, we are called to support those in need – to stand in solidarity with them. For a $2 donation, or $5 for all three Fridays, Secondary students will be able to wear their House uniforms each Friday for the remainder of this term. This is a great opportunity for our students to show their support for others in need. Money will be collected by Homeroom leaders each Friday in Homeroom time.

Mock Trials

Round 1 of the 2022 Law Society of Western Australia Mock Trial Competition commenced on Monday night at the Old Court House. Our team went up against Sacred Heart College - appearing for the Defence in a criminal matter. Specifically, it was alleged that the accused had stolen a pack of toilet paper and $740 of variously denominated currency. The team was convincing in their case theory and thus, the prosecution was unable to discharge its burden of proof. A sound win for the Defence!

Due to limits being placed on the number of spectators allowed in court, only a select group of students were able to be present at the trial. It is hoped that in later rounds, these restrictions will be lessened – opening it up for family and friends to watch our team in action.

There is a lot of preparation involved in the lead up to the trial, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students who, despite their busy schedules, enthusiastically attended lunchtime meetings.

Our successful Round 1 Team included:

  • Barrister 1: Kady Wall
  • Barrister 2: James Green
  • Solicitor: Spencer Burchett
  • Witness 1: Daniel Doran
  • Witness 2:  Charlotte Moody
  • Judges Associate:  Zoe Furness

Congratulations to our 2022 Mock Trial team on their win.

Live Simply Day

Live Simply Day will be held on March 25. It is an opportunity for staff and students to pray, fast and give during this Lenten season. All funds will support Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion and Ukraine Appeal.

Ukraine Crisis Appeal

Those who wage war forget humanity. They do not start from the people, they do not look at the real life of people but place partisan interests and power before all else. They trust in the diabolical and perverse logic of weapons, which is the furthest from the logic of God. And they distance themselves from ordinary people, who want peace, and who — the ordinary people — are the real victims in every conflict, who pay for the follies of war with their own skin.'
Pope Francis February 27, 2022.

Caritas Australia’s partner Caritas Ukraine has called for support and assistance as it continues to support the country’s most vulnerable as the crisis escalates.

Jesuit Mission Appeal

As the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine deepens, Jesuit Mission has launched an emergency appeal to support the work on the ground of Jesuit Refugee Service Europe.  Please donate to Jesuit Mission’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal today to help deliver emergency shelter, food and essential items, medical escorts, translation and accompaniment to Ukrainian people in desperate need.

World’s Greatest Shave

The community spirit is alive and well at John XXIII College shown by Year 11 students Robbie Brigg, Spencer Burchett, Bayley Allen and Ian Lawrence who took part in the World’s Greatest Shave on 12 March. Today, 50 Aussies will be told that they have blood cancer – and as the most diagnosed cancer amongst children – blood cancer is a notorious super-villain for schools all over the country. With this in mind, the boys raised $6121 outside of school, for this worthy cause. Well done!

Alternative Swimming Carnival

On Thursday 17 March, all competitive swimming students had the opportunity to represent their House in the 2022 Alternative Swimming Carnival. The carnival was modified into year group races within each school period of the day. We were blessed with perfect conditions where our students swam their hearts out for their houses. The results and individual champions will be announced in Homerooms next week.

ACC Swimming Age Championships

This week also saw the commencement of the ACC Swimming Age Championship U14, U19 and U13 carnivals. John XXIII was accepted into all three carnivals from our student nominations, and considering there was up to 85 ACC Schools entering, this was a very impressive outcomeAs always, our students represented our College with passion, commitment, and determination to swim their absolute best and secure as many points as possible.

At the conclusion of each carnival, the ACC announces the Overall Champion male and female teams. This week, John XXIII College came home with both the U14 and U19 Champion Girls team shields and are currently sitting in fourth position overall in the team rankings. Next week, it will be our U16, U17 and U15 student’s opportunity to defend our 2021 title, and we wish them the best of luck.
