Religious Education

To add to this week’s hectic schedule, here is just a reminder of the Parent Reconciliation Information and Enrolment Night that will take place at St Mary’s Church in the foyer “Gathering Space”. We have allocated two different time slots on the one night, being this Thursday 24th February at  5pm or 7pm.

Children in Year two will need to purchase the Purple Pack (junior) for their first reception of the sacrament of Penance. Year Five children work through the Blue Pack (Senior) named the ‘Turning around Program’.

Next Tuesday 1st March we will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday, also commonly known as Pancake Tuesday. Traditionally, people use up foods such as eggs and milk in preparation for the season of Lent, a time for prayer and fasting. Lent is a season lasting forty days, marking the time of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert.

Written messages of promise will be used in the small burning of the ashes ceremony held on Tuesday. These ashes will be used to make the sign of the cross on our foreheads on the following day which is Ash Wednesday, a day that marks the beginning of the Lenten Season. Ashes used on Ash Wednesday are traditionally made from the burning of palms blessed in the previous year's Palm Sunday celebration. Ash Wednesday.  The Year 5 and Year 6 classes will attend the Ash Wednesday Mass at St Mary’s Church. The Foundation - Year 4 children will remain at school and attend an Ash Wednesday ceremony.
