Interschool Netball Gala

Last Friday some of the Year 4/5/6 students went to Reservoir High School to play netball against the other primary schools in the local area. We were pleased to see a number of parents turn up to watch: Tania Mateski, Geeta Parekh , Dermott and Fran Galvin King, Grace Kagioglou and Vinh and Hien Tran.  We would also like to thank those parents who drove some of the students to the venue.

The Girls team consisted of Ria, Caitlin, Bernice, Amelia, Harper, Yianna and Sheen. The girls team won 2 out of 5 games and played well, they worked well as a team and made some great intercepts, and scored a number of goals. Our team was quite petite against the other teams of great height. A big thank you to Yianna and Harper for joining the team with only a couple of weeks to practice. Both girls held their own against their older opponents and I look forward to seeing their skills develop over the next few years.

It was a fun day and I was overwhelmed with joy when I got a lot of goals, especially as the person defending me was twice my height. Amelia

It was fun and very tiring. I got use to playing and really enjoyed the games. Sheen

We also had a mixed team consisting of Isabelle, Brian, John, Ahan, Julian, Yash, Ayisha, and Joshua. This team was a fast moving, high scoring team who won 3 games and draw 2. They got to the semi finals but unfortunately lost by 1 goal. A great team to watch with a lot of potential for future netball or sporting endeavours.

Comments from the Parents:

On a whole both teams worked really well and showed fantastic team work and spirit. Despite the varying ages of the girls’ team, they played really hard against their challenging opponents. The mixed team’s speed and ability to share the ball was great to watch. Both teams won their first games and celebrated graciously by shaking their opponents hands. We were honoured to be part of this fun and exciting competition. Well done to the teams for their great efforts and true sportsmanship!!!

When we arrived back at school, we had the best welcoming party, many students in Year 3/4, Year 1 and Year 2 were standing at the fence, cheering for the netballers. It was great to see their support of the team.

Thursday hot chips lunch for the Preps... Thanks Cettina!

Year 1

The Year 1's have been learning all about Statistics and Probability recently. We have been focusing on the vocabulary needed when we talk about chance and data. The Year 1's have been doing a wonderful job at differentiating between the chance and data vocabulary like certain, impossible, likely and unlikely.

Here are some of the students examples below:

It is certain that school will be on tomorrow

It is impossible that it will rain tacos

It is likely that it will rain tomorrow

It is unlikely it will rain this afternoon

Year 2

Rubik's Cube Phenomenon

A recent phenomenon that has taken over the Grade 2's is Rubik's Cubes! The students have been working together and teaching each other how to solve them. The interest has spread throughout the school, with students from various year levels and even teachers wanting to learn the strategies to complete them.

Year 2 and Year 3/4

Wellbeing Presentations

This term in inquiry we have been focusing on a health unit. Each of the students in Grade 2, 3 and 4 brought in 4 items from home that represented the four wellbeing areas; Social, Physical, Spiritual and Emotional. The Grade 2’s paired up with a Grade 3 or 4 and shared their 4 items with each other explaining why they chose that item and how it helps improve their wellbeing. They then had the opportunity to mark each other against a rubric and give their peer some feedback.

It was great to see everyone using lots of eye contact while they were presenting. Brenton

I liked how people were speaking clearly. Azariah

I learnt that there are other things that can help our emotional wellbeing, like a picture of your mum hugging you. Chloe

I liked seeing all the amazing and different items. Katalina

I liked listening to my group and showing them my stuff. Samantha

Year 4/5 and Year 5/6

Wellbeing Expo 1.

Yesterday the students practised presenting their exhibit for the Wellbeing Expo to their peers. Students had the opportunity to give and receive feedback about their presentation of their Wellbeing Tool Box.

Today was the real deal! Congratulations on our students who conveyed confidently to the audience (students, staff and parents) what makes them happy and the things they hold dear that are a part of their wellbeing!
