Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our school community a safe and relaxing break. I hope you can spend some quality time with your family, and if you are travelling, that you return home safely. As I comment at the end of each term, I would like to again on behalf of our staff, thank you for your willingness to work with us, so we can give our students, your precious children, the best opportunity to continue to grow into the people you wish for them to be.

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Last Sunday we celebrated our Parish and School's feast day with a combined celebration at the 10.30am Sacred Heart Church Mass. The feedback from our parishioners and Father Eloysius and Father Albano has been so positive. To see nearly forty of our students and their families coming together to celebrate both our shared Christian faith, and an acknowledgement and respect for our school community members of different faiths, is the very reason our diverse Catholic School exists.

Can I thank our magnificent parents who were such great hosts in our school multi purpose room, setting up refreshments, serving and then cleaning and packing up. I am so grateful for your continued support of all things Sacred Heart School.

During Mass, Father Albano blessed our school's new Sacred Heart of Jesus Statute which as of Sunday, is placed in a prominent position in our school foyer.

Maria

When a person leaves a legacy such as Maria, they need to be acknowledged more than once in the school newsletter. Today we had a morning tea for Maria as we celebrated her last unofficial day at our school. As mentioned in last week's newsletter we will have a more formal celebration in Term Four giving our students and parents the opportunity to say farewell and best wishes for an exciting, less stressed and thoroughly enjoyable future.

A Letter From Maria

Dear Sacred Heart Community,

Thank you to the many families who have come to say their goodbyes and given me gifts. I am and have been very privileged to have worked for the past 27 years with hardworking colleagues past and present, who truly love this school as I do, and who want their students to achieve their goals and dreams.

I would like to sincerely thank all my colleagues, especially those I have worked closely with – Gerry, Rosemarie, the parents and friends and families I have met (some of whom I still see many years down the track) and of course the children (who are at the heart of everything we do).

Some of our current parents who attended Sacred Heart now their children here. That is what my  bond and connection to Sacred Heart is all about.

I will miss you all, but I will be back as a volunteer to help in any way I can.  I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life and spending more time with my family (especially my 2 beautiful grandchildren). I am looking forward to do some travelling with my husband to see family overseas, and to do the things I really love.

Thank you all sincerely and I will see you towards the end of Term 3.

I would like to thank Mark (my boss) for his support over the last 4 ½-5 years.  You have made the end of my career (work) the happiest of times.

Bye for now

Maria

Parent Helpers

It is great to have our classroom helpers back in the school after a very interrupted two years and its associated restrictions on visitors to schools. Our teachers are very grateful for the assistance, and I know our students love to see their mums, dads and grandparents helping in the school. If you would like to volunteer to be a helper, please see Jess or myself. As indicated by Maria below, you will need a Working with Children Check which we can help organise for you if you do not have one as yet.

Auslan Superstars!

Joke Corner (From the parish bulletin)

A missionary nun was flying to her new assignment with a pilot in a small plane to a remote bush mission in the north of Africa. She was the only passenger. Suddenly the pilot grabbed his chest and slumped forward. Frantically, the nun grabbed the radio and shrieked, “Mayday! Mayday! This is Sister Theresa. Please help me! Help me! The pilot has had a heart attack and I have no idea how to fly the plane. I’m alone up here with the pilot. What am I going to do?” A voice came over the radio. “This is Air Traffic Control and I can hear you loud and clear, Sister. I’ll talk you through this and get you back on the ground safely. I’ve had a lot of experience with this sort of emergency. Everything will be fine. Now give me your altitude and location.” She says, “Well, I’m on the small side just over five feet four inches and I’m currently sitting in the front seat.” The Air Traffic Controller gasped loudly and said, “Repeat after me. Our Father who art in heaven ...”

Please take care.

Yours Sincerely

Mark Tierney

Working with Children Checks (From Maria)

Working With Children Register

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,

We are required by law that all volunteers – be it as classroom helper, attending excursions or being in the school with children, to have a working with children check. (WWCC)

If you do not have this check then you are not allowed to assist in anyway at school. For example, you will be unable go on excursions, help in the classroom, assist on the Mother’s/Father’s day stall or sell icy poles or popcorn.

All, contractors and visitors who have business working in the school (cleaners, maintenance persons etc.) must also present their WWCC before entering the school.

These are kept up-to-date on the Department of Justice and Community Safety Victoria website by our office.

You may have a WWCC card for your employment and we may not have a copy on file. If so, please present to the office so we can make a copy.

You may not have a working with children check and do not wish to have one because you are not available to help out at school. That is okay.

You may want to help out at school but have not had the chance to apply for a working with children check.

You will need to apply on line at:  https://www.justice.vic.gov.au/ and search WWCC.

There is no cost to apply for a WWCC as a volunteer (the only out of pocket expense would be having your photo taken – similar to passport photo). Please read the instructions on the above website about what is required to apply.
