News From the Principal

Raywood Railway Station Opening

As most of you will now know, the official opening of our new train station has been postponed. We only learned of this news yesterday after our students had gone home for the evening. We do not have a new date at this stage, but will communicate that to our families and wider community when we do. We are disappointed by this news but and looking forward to being a part of the opening when we have a new date.

End of Term Celebrations

On the last day of Term 2 our students were invited to come to school in their PJs. Our students loved this experience (which was decided upon by our Year 6 leaders) and even managed a session of Kelly Sports whilst in their bedtime attire!

At lunchtime the students enjoyed a bowl of spaghetti bolognaise, that even included some of our herbs from the school garden.

Term 3

Term Three is looking to be a busy one for our students and staff. Please check the calendar on the Important Dates page of our newsletters or our website so that you can keep up with all that is scheduled.

Some highlights of Term 3 are set to include:

And don't forget some high quality teaching and learning across our core curriculum areas of Literacy , Numeracy and Integrated Studies.

Whole School Excursion

We are heading off to visit Quantum Science Centre in Macleod on Monday July 18th. This excursion is of no cost to families as we have received subsidies for both the interactive sessions and the travel.

A reminder that we are leaving from ASQ in California Gully at  7.15am - so please be there by 7.10am. We return at 5pm to ASQ.  Students are to bring their snacks and lunch. Full details are on the permission slip that each family signed on uEducateus.

Mid Year Reports

We trust that each of our families received and have now read their child/ren's report. If you would like to book an interview time with your child/ren's teacher(s) please contact them directly to arrange a suitable time and method (we are able to conduct interviews in person, over the internet or via the phone).

Breakfast Club

We have a new initiative beginning this term, Breakfast Club. This means that on Friday mornings our students will be able to have breakfast at school before the first session. As soon as they arrive either on-foot or by bus they can come over to the old staffroom and have a warm milo, toast, cereal or spaghetti/baked beans on toast. Some weeks we may even have special treats such as pancakes or scrambled eggs. Fruit cups will also be available. Students do not have to participate in this program and can certainly eat at home as they normally would, but if they would like breakfast here at school (or even a second breakfast) they are most welcome.

The food offered is low or no sugar and has good nutritional value. The food is donated by Foodbank's School Breakfast Club Program and also means we have a supply of breakfast, snack and lunch items to provide students who arrive at school on any day not having had breakfast or without their lunch box. If you have any questions about this program please contact Lisa.

Rapid Antigen Tests (RATS)

As many of you would have seen in the media over the holiday break, the Victorian Government has announced that schools are to supplied with RATS for our students and staff to be able to access on a weekly basis. On Monday we sent home a box of five tests for each student and will continue to send home a box each week. There is no set directive with regard when to test nor is there a mandate to test. Please test if students are symptomatic or have been in close contact with a positive person. With flu season also upon us, it is often tricky to tell if the symptoms are due to Covid or the flu or just the common cold- if in doubt, please test.

A reminder that students can still attend school if they are living with a Covid positive person, provided they test three times over a five day period and wear a mask. Please contact Lisa or Bree if you have any questions or concerns.

A huge thank you to our families for regularly testing and ensuring that students who are unwell stay at home.

School Council News

Our next scheduled meeting is to be held on Monday August 8th, commencing at 5.30pm. Please let Lisa or Bree know if you are unable to attend.

Website

A reminder that our colourful and informative website is has a front page that is regularly updated with latest articles and a calendar of dates (scroll to the bottom), this way families can stay up to date with what has been and is about to happen. Please pass on our website details to families who may be looking for a school for their child/ren as we would love to be able to boost our enrolment and offer even more students high quality and inclusive educational experiences. Our website can be found at https://www.raywoodps.vic.edu.au/
