CIS Cross Country Report
A strong contingent of runners represented Calrossy at the highly competitive CIS Cross Country. Our students came away with some amazing results. Running against students a year above his age group, Jacob Price was very impressive finishing in 11th place out of 113 competitors. Aleksey Chambers (Year 5) finished in 16th against 104 competitors, and Ella Ridley (Year 12) also finished 16th against 54 other competitors. Abbie Peet finished 5th in the Multi Class race (combined girls and boys race), and finished with the highest percentage which places her first in the event across all participants. Well done to all our runners. Even qualifying for this event is outstanding.

NSW All Schools Swimming – Amelia Simm
Amelia Simm has continued her extraordinary run by securing a bronze medal at NSW All Schools Swimming. The event brings together all of the elite swimmers across the state to swim in Sydney at Olympic Park. Amelia's bronze in the 16yrs 50m breaststroke places her in contention for a place at Nationals in August. She also managed finals appearances in all of her events. Well done Amelia!
Primary Basketball Grand Final Report
The Calrossy Sparks basketball team have won their Grand Final. The girls were all fantastic across the final with Charlotte Aitken rebounding well and putting up 4 points to keep the score ticking over, while Lizzie Pickens pushed the pace of the game scoring 5 of her own points even when contending with two defenders most of the game. Claudia Pilavidis and Michaela Moylan were solid in defence with Andy Doyle and Ellie Davidson playing tough on both ends to hold the Calrossy lead to late in the game. Lauren Sharkey nailed a shot from outside to extend the lead to 18 points midway through the second half. St Ed's came roaring back to within a basket before Ava Harding and Lizzie Pickens both iced free throws to take the game out of reach. Ava Harding was top scorer taking a massive haul of 13 points for the final. A huge thanks to the many parents, grandparents, and friends who came to support the team. Special thanks to Emma Rumble and Hannah Hurley for their coaching and commitment to the team, and to Mr Moylan for his assistance with coaching our extra training sessions.
Secondary Boys Basketball Grand Final Game Report
The Calrossy Pelicans defeated Farrer in the 9/10B Boys Final. Largely comprised of Calrossy's representative HRIS Opens Boys Basketball team, the addition of Harry Douglas and Dominc Fawcett saw the Pelicans go into the game favourites to win. With Wilson O'Rourke and Harrison Barton sitting out much of the game with niggling injuries, Bryn Heywood took charge at the offensive end taking the ball to the basket and top scoring for the game. Harry Russ was outstanding playing all positions including big defensive minutes in the 5 position. Tom Aitken found space to make timely offensive plays scoring clutch baskets when the team needed them. The off-ball defence of Dominic Fawcett and Harry Douglass held strong with Farrer making a late charge to bring scores level. The play of the game came from Max Thompson who swatted away a certain basket with the scores tied. Bryn Heywood pushed the offence and drew a foul with only a minute remaining. He iced both free throws before Calrossy locked down on defence allowing Harrison Barton to steal the ball with seconds to play. The ensuing outlet pass allowed Bryn Heywood to put the game out of reach with a layup on the buzzer. Special thanks to Coach Ben Wise who took the team for the season. Well done on a great season gentleman!
Secondary Girls Basketball Grand Final Game Report
Calrossy Suns Basketball played the 16s Girls Grand Final going down to Quirindi in the tightest game of the season. Captain Jess Golland led the team at both ends of the floor with tenacious defence and crisp passing in the offensive lane. The fast footwork and
gritty defence of Olivia Coombes frustrated the opposition leading to plenty of turnovers. Camilla Teague carried her good form from HRIS Basketball leading the team in scoring and steals in the absence of starting forward Hannah Hurley who was unable to play after a knee injury sustained from representative basketball duties. With the team missing the height of Harmony Phillips in the paint, Zoe Chappel went to work rebounding and defending inside. Liv Osland and Poppy Penberthy picked up the fast-moving ball carriers while Jemima McIntyre provided valuable defence off the bench. In the end, the girls went down after giving their best effort for the season. We're grateful for the experience of Coach Julia Riolo and her time with the team. An outstanding season girls, well done!
Junior School Athletics
Junior School has been finishing off the final events that were rained out at the Junior School Athletics Carnival. Once the events have been finalised, the results and HRIS team will be released. Thanks for you patience as the results are collated.
Calrossy Rugby Match Reports
Calrossy Under 14 Boys took their first win of the season against a tough Farrer outfit this evening. Hayden Evans and Harrison Hamilton were the try scorers with the difference between the teams being Harrison’s try conversions. In other results, Year 7 finished in a 36 - 36 draw also against Farrer. Jack Carslake was the stand out beating players out wide to score multiple tries bringing Calrossy back from a large deficit. Acknowledgement must be given to Farrer for generously loaning players to cover our injured line-up. First XV and Under 16s Boys both went down to Farrer Gold sides.
The Calrossy 14s and 16s Girls were away in Barraba where they faced strong sides from Inverell and Barraba. Results Under 16s: Inverell 39 def Calrossy 10 (Try scorers Audrey Lloyd & Maree Weate). Pirates 46 def. Calrossy 0. Reults under 14s Inverell 38 def. Calrossy 15 (Try scorers Emily Brown, Ellie McKechnie, Liv Steer). Barraba 41 def Calrossy 10 (Try scorers Ruby Smith & Nigella Bonner). Thank you to Head of Senior School Miss Julia Boland, Principal Mr David Smith, and Sports Administrator Mrs Jenny Taggart for accompanying our girls on their away game.
HRIS Basketball Tournament Report
Calrossy Opens Basketball teams performed exceptionally well at the HRIS Basketball tournament. Both teams were seeded last after a year out due to Covid restrictions but made a statement with huge results just outside a podium finish. The girls fought their way into contention for the title by defeating teams from Newcastle Grammar, Lakes Grammar, and Scone Grammar. They lost only to the eventual 3rd and 1st place teams. A more favourable draw may have seen a top 3 finish for the girls who easily won the 5th and 6th playoff. For the girls, Emma Rumble was tenacious on both ends of the floor creating scoring for herself and the team, while Hannah Hurley's silky smooth handles and finishes saw her top scorer for the team across the tournament. Year 12 student Julia Riolo battled hard in the paint rebounding strongly and contending with the powerful inside players while another Year 12 student, Emma Golland, showed her experience in bringing the ball up and making big plays inside. Jess Golland playing against older opponents was composed and reliable beating players of the dribble and feeding the ball to scorers. Brenna Crompton proved there's no sport she can't play by slotting straight into the starting line-up with her imposing strength and speed making her a formidable defender. Reliable minutes off the bench played by Camilla Teague and Georgia Douglas kept the score moving and the defensive end locked down. In the boys division, Calrossy finished in 4th position after taking the game to the tournament winners in the Semi Final and almost snatching a win. Harrison Barton was simply unstoppable and while only being a year 10 student was the best performer in the tournament. Ben Wise was an offensive and defensive giant blocking shots at will and scoring in the big moments. Bryn Heywood, Charlie Carter, and Ryan Stewart held down the other starting 5 positions with each of them scoring clutch buckets in the elimination games. Harry Russ, Tom Aitken, Wilson O'Rouke and Max Thompson played crucial minutes and made big offensive and defensive plays to carry the team into the top 4. Special thanks to Mrs Lasker for accompanying the team on the trip!
