Calrossy Secondary
Promoting Positive Behaviours
At Calrossy, we believe that all students are valuable human beings. This comes from our understanding of each being made in God's image (Gen 1:27). This means that all humanity has an inherent value that is not based on circumstance, giftedness or anything else. Coupled with this is the concept of sin; I have not yet met a parent who considers their child perfect. We don’t need convincing of this. All are capable of making mistakes and doing wrong, students and adults.
A community such as Calrossy must work hard to ensure the best environment for all our students. This comes in the form of our Positive Engagement Framework. Embedded within this framework is the encouragement for doing the right thing in the form of Merits. We want to catch students doing the right thing. Students who receive multiple merits in a term are rewarded with a special certificate and shouted a pizza lunch.
Likewise, for those students who step outside of our school guidelines, there are various disciplinary consequences as a result. This system is designed to correct students and help shape them into mature men and women who contribute to our world. Thus, following in the footsteps of many proud old girls and old boys before them. As a school, we are continually looking to refine these systems to promote the best behaviours in the best possible way.
We are currently trialling (weeks 8 and 9) some slight modifications to our Positive Engagement Framework. These are outlined below. If successful, we will make these changes permanent. For these systems to work best, we require students, parents and school to work together for the good of all. We appreciate your support in these matters.
Positive Behaviour Framework Refinements
- If a student is given a detention for a problem in class, they may be asked by the classroom teacher to attend a teacher lead detention. For example, a teacher may ask a student to come to their office at lunch time. Alternatively, they may place the student on a lunch time detention which they will need to attend as per normal. Parents/carers will be notified on the Hub for both these detentions.
- If a student is on an Orange (I) card and their behaviour does not improve they will be issued with a suspension warning. If the student continues to demonstrate poor behaviour they will be issued with a Suspension.
Whole School Wellbeing Program
At Calrossy we are working closely with the Association of Independent Schools to review and renew our whole school wellbeing approach through a program called Compass Wellbeing. On Friday the 10th of June all our staff spent time collecting our current
practice so that we can map out our K-12 approach. As we review our practice we will continue to embed evidence based practice along with aligning Calrossy specific traditions and culture into our program. If you are interested in finding out more about what’s driving our practice this executive summary of Australian based wellbeing data provides a good overview of school based programs.
Uniform
- If a student is not wearing their uniform correctly, they will be told by their teacher that they have a uniform breach, and it will be recorded on the Hub as a Uniform Breach (this is not a lunch detention)
- A student who is issued with three uniform breaches in a term will do an after-school detention.
- If a student is issued with three additional breaches, they will be given an additional after school detention and escalated to Level 2 Yellow Card.
- Persistent uniform non-compliance may result in a suspension.
