Spotlight on learning this fortnight

HIGH ABILITY INCURSION

GATEWays Incursions

Our high ability students have recently taken part in some exciting workshops to develop their creative and critical thinking skills. The Ignite Literacy Program involved students analysing the structure of various genres of writing, including a newspaper report. Later, they discussed possible traits of fictitious characters and were encouraged to consider absurd or fantastical concepts to individualise and personalise a text.

The Science and Math workshop required students to consider simple elements of genetics. They mathematically and scientifically analysed the traits of potential family members from a scenario developed by a fictious troll. In the afternoon, students learned about Euler and Hamiltonian circuits and used these principles to analyse how to traverse a zoo path.

Comments from the days included:

Connor (G6): “I enjoyed learning about genes and alleles.”

Layna (G4): “I found the blood stuff challenging but I did enjoy it.”

Mackenzie (G4): “I didn’t know that any antibodies needed blood.”

Grace (G4): “I found the zoo map tricky because I didn’t think I was doing it right and then I realised I was on track.”

Josh (G6): “I enjoyed the whole day!”
