Living the Gospel

Today we celebrated our Patron Saint!

Today, the 25th of July, is the feast of Saint James.  We celebrated a beautiful Mass with Fr. Dillon, lead by our Year 2 students and teachers.  Saint James the Greater was one of Jesus’ disciples. He was a friend and cousin who really liked Jesus and wanted to know more about what Jesus was teaching. He believed in what he had to say.

Saint James worked as a fisherman with his brother John, his father Zebedee and his friend Simon. Jesus called James and the other fishermen to follow Him.

Saint James is the Patron Saint of pilgrims and Spain. Saint James was given the mission to spread the gospel of Jesus. He journeyed from Jerusalem to Spain to spread the good news. Our school is named after this special follower of Jesus. Just like Saint James, we are also asked to follow Jesus and spread the good news.

A reading from Matthew's Gospel:

As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers who were fishermen, Simon [called Peter] and his brother Andrew, catching fish in the lake with a net.  Jesus said to them, “Come with me, and I will teach you to catch people.”  At once they left their nets and went with him.  He went on and saw two other brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee.  They were in their boat with their father Zebedee, getting their nets ready.  Jesus called them, and at once they left the boat and their father, and went with them.

How do we follow Jesus?

how do we spread the good news?
