Library News

“Forgiveness liberates the soul. It removes fear. That is why it is such a powerful weapon.”

“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison”.

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

These are just a few of the powerful quotes by Nelson Mandela on display in the library as we marked Mandela Day on July 18. This year’s theme of

“Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are” reminds us that each one of us can take action against poverty and injustice.

The Library team are bending their collective minds to putting together a fun celebration of all things books as Lit Week approaches in late August. More details of the competitions, quizzes and activities will be announced in the daily bulletins, closer to the event.

We are excited with the arrival of the latest release by young Australian author Tristan Bancks - Cop & Robber. If his previous titles such as Two Wolves and The Fall are anything to go by, his new book will be an absolute thriller. Here’s the blurb to give you a taste of what’s inside the covers:

If your mum was a cop and your dad was a crim who needed your help to commit a crime, would you do it to save him? At what cost?

Nash Hall's dad is a criminal who just can't seem to go straight. He wants Nash to help him commit a robbery. A big one. The trouble is, Nash's mum is a cop. And the robbery is at Nash's school. But Dad owes a lot of money to some very dangerous people and if Nash doesn't help him do the job, it could cost both their lives.

From the bestselling author of Two WolvesThe Fall and Detention.

No library newsletter is complete without the past week’s jokes so here they are:

Why do unread books need to go to the doctor?

Because they have poor circulation.

When is a book not blue?

When it is read.
