Year 9 Environmental Science

Students in Year 9 Environmental Science had a wonderful time exploring the biological, ecological and environmental concepts they have been learning about in class, in a real life setting, during a nature walk last week.

Focusing on hollows and food trees, students noted the diversity of habitat in and around a floodway, discovering a double-sided canoe tree, seedling plantings and two types of wattle which were beginning to flower.

They also saw a golden whistler, pardalottes and grey fantails, all interested in the insects feeding on the wattles, and witnessed seasonal food webs and breeding behaviours.

When possible, students are given the opportunity to apply and extend classroom learning for this subject in the forest reserves and rivers which are within walking distance from our school.

Students love this hands-on learning approach, often sharing their own experiences and telling stories about what they have learnt at school with their families once they get home.
