From the Principal

Dear Families,

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and managed to get some rest and relaxation to get us through the last week and a half.

Emergency procedures: Lock downs and evacuation drills are an important part of our OH&S emergency procedures, and we will be conducting a lock down drill next week. Staff talk to students in preparation for these events and work as a team to practice the procedure in the event of an emergency. Please discuss this with your children and how important their cooperation is in these drills.

Reports: Kristy and I often comment how lucky we are at OGPS, and after reading the reports of all the students, it gives us a clear indication of how well the students are doing across the school. Some students will make enormous growth, some expected, and some below expected growth. We all learn at different rates and teachers are great at accommodating this in their teaching. I sincerely hope you take the time to read the report with your children late next week and celebrate their achievements. They are such great students! Thank you to families for your support this semester.

Student Support Group (SSG) meetings: To the families involved in SSG’s can I thank you for your involvement and dedication to helping staff support your children. It is a genuine partnership that helps students achieve their specific goals developed in conjunction with families. Thanks to James, Kristy, Andy, our wonderful education support team and the various classroom teachers that are involved in this process.

Prep information night (2023): Thank you to the Foundation team for organising and running the Foundation information evening last Monday night. The families were extremely appreciative of your time and information sharing. Thanks also to James and Andy for attending. Please send in any 2023 enrolment forms ASAP to enable us to plan 2023 staffing and classes. If you missed the presentation, we have the PowerPoint hosted on the school’s website now.

Parent helper sessions: Ann and Kerryn ran two very successful parent helper training sessions last week - thank you for your time, effort and preparation for this. Thanks to all those who attended, and we look forward to seeing you in classrooms in term 3. Teachers will liaise with you to arrange times for you to help in classrooms. Stay tuned.

Cross Country: Tomorrow we have 6 students running at the Western Metropolitan Regional cross country in Keilor. This is an extremely high level of competition that the following students have qualified for. I congratulate and wish Zara W, Alice D, Emerson G, Harry L, Grayson H and Jedah Z all the very best and look forward to seeing you there and watching you run. We are already very proud of you.

Enjoy the rest of the week and stay warm!
