High School Biological Science 2 Excursions

Over the next two weeks the Year 10 Biological Science 2 classes will each have a full day excursion to the Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre .  Here the classes will explore ocean currents and climate change as a part of the Global Systems unit.  Students will spend two hours on a boat, conducting scientific ocean sampling.

 

Maddie Walker’s class: Friday July 1, 8.40am-3.30pm

Lisa Arthur’s class: Monday July 4, 8.40am-3.30pm

Kristi Ellingsen’s class: Wednesday July 6, 8.40am-2.40pm

 

Students will need to wear sensible outdoor­-education style clothing with solid footwear that is suitable for exposure to Tasmanian winter weather on a boat. This should include a covid mask, hat/beanie,  sunscreen and warm/waterproof jacket. Students should also bring a drink, morning tea and lunch, and travel sickness medication if required. 

Global Perspectives Year 7 Connections

Over the next two weeks, Year 7 students will be participating in their Global Perspectives Day. This day connects to the Language the class is studying and one of the key areas from the Purpose and Concerns Statement: ‘We seek to help our students develop as people who will … hold a global perspective..’ This means having an understanding of cultures and customs, recognising and accepting difference and diversity, and working for a better world.

 

Students will undertake a range of activities, which might involve food, games, excursions, films. If students are heading off-campus, information has been sent through Operoo - please authorise as soon as possible.

National Da Vinci Decathlon

On Monday 27 June, eight Year 7 students will compete in the National Da Vinci Decathlon. It will be an online event this year.  We wish them well!

Festival of Voices - Years 5-8

The Morris Maestros Choir and Years 7/8 Choir are very excited to be participating in the Festival of Voices’ Young Tasmania Sings again this year. The event will see choristers from schools and choirs across Tasmania combine to create an impressive massed choir under the direction of acclaimed conductor, Kate Albury.

 

This will involve students attending two rehearsals (Friday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 5) and an evening performance at the Federation Concert Hall.

 

On Friday July 1 and Tuesday July 5, the Morris Maestros and Years 7/8 Choir students will depart The Friends’ School at 9.00am travelling to the Federation Concert Hall and returning at 2.00pm. Students are asked to bring a packed lunch and drink bottle.

 

On the concert evening (Tuesday, July 5), singers should arrive by 6.30pm. The concert will commence at 7.00pm and should conclude by 8.30pm. Don’t forget to book tickets! https://festivalofvoices.com/act/youngtasmaniasings/
