Last week of TERM 2, it was 'REFUGEE WEEK', and the Griffith Regional Theatre hosted the screening of "SCATTERED PEOPLE”, which was organised by Will Mead, the Convenor Rural Australians for Refugees Griffith.

About the film: Through the eyes and hearts of two Iranian musicians, Scattered People is a story about the healing power of music, bringing together people, cultures, and countries while exploring Australians' attitudes towards people seeking asylum. Scattered People is about the power of music to create change and restore hope.

Jacob Dal Nevo and Sanita Lole took 21 Students to see the screening, which were years 9 – 11. At the end of the Film, we asked the students, what their thoughts were and what they learnt.

Some of the student reviews were;

“It was an inspiring film”, Aotearoa.

“We are all the same, but the only difference is our culture’s”, Tufale.

“We learnt the importance of changing the conversation around people seeking asylum and what we can do to help”, Shirine Nehme.

“I learnt the difference between an Asylum seeker and a Refugee”, Emma.

The screening of ‘Scattered People’ was an eye opener to the students who had little or no information about refugees and how they integrate with Australians and make Australia a place to call home.

Refugee week promotes harmony and togetherness. The theme unites individuals, communities and organisations from many different backgrounds behind a common cause. The common theme is a reminder that, regardless of our differences, we all share a common humanity. The theme for 2002 refugee week was ‘Healing’.
