It seems the beginning of every Careers article references a busy period, and this one is no exception. But the reality is, ‘busy’, is such a wonderful reflection because it means there are opportunities, programs and supports to best empower our students to discover a pathway that is meaningful to them.
Work Experience
Our annual Work Experience Week is taking place this week with a record number of Year 10s heading out into the workforce. The staff at LSC are excited to be able to, where possible, go and visit the students at their work place and support them in their experience. The Careers Office look forward to sharing some student comments and photos next term.
Morrisby Profiling
The majority of Year 9s have completed* their Morrisby Profiling – a government initiative to assess different aspects of our students’ career personalities and make suggestions about subjects and future careers.
This is an incredible program with such a wealth of information and we encourage you to discuss your son or daughter’s results with them – printed booklets should arrive this week.
Consultations with a Morrisby expert will take place on the first two days of Term 3.

Looking Ahead
Subject Selection
Early in Term 3, we will continue the ongoing work of supporting students with decision making, future planning and 2023 subject selection. We look forward to working with students and families to provide information and guidance.
VTAC Applications
University applications for Year 12 students open on August 1st. We encourage all students to submit an application to keep every possible pathway available. Students will be supported by year level briefings, Pathways curriculum, and individual consultations – whatever the destination.
Our Careers Library
Research shows that access to printed materials and guides is one of the keys to students being able to explore their options and feel empowered to make informed, positive choices. One aspect of Lara Secondary College’s commitment to this is the ongoing updating of our careers library. We have been in touch with over 100 institutes, industries and organisations to provide up-to-date resources to benefit all of our students. This library of information is available in 201.

What Are We Reading?
Like all of us, Sean Aiken struggled with the question ‘What should I do with my life?’. He got advice from friends and family but the best advice was from his Dad who said, "It doesn't matter what you do, just make sure it's something you're passionate about." This advice inspired Sean to create the One-Week Job Project and embark on an epic journey to find his passion. His goal: to work fifty-two jobs in fifty-two weeks.
