Humanities Report

Dom Kiely

This term, our Year 7 Humanities students have hopped into a virtual DeLorean and time-travelled to the ancient civilisations of China and Greece, whilst our Year 8 Humanities students have learned about the Scandinavian Vikings, the Japanese Shoguns, and the Italian Renaissance.  Who knows where we will travel next in our Humanities lessons!

Year 9 students have been learning about democracy and what it means to be an Australian citizen. They have also been learning all about Australia’s legal system. I dare say we have a few future lawyers on the way given how the students have been engrossed in some high-profile overseas cases is any indication!

On the VCE front, a number of our VCE students attended a ‘Connect Ed’ tutorial where they were able to speak with current University students that scored well in the relevant subject area. It was an invaluable opportunity for our current VCE students to learn from someone with recent first-hand experience of what they are going through. The students were able to walk away with strategies to support them in their VCE studies.

For Year 10 students, the start of next term is a really good time to start thinking about what Humanities subjects they might want to undertake in VCE. We encourage any students interested in any of the senior Humanities (Years 10-VCE) subjects below to come and see the current relevant teachers for more information.
