Semester 1 Academic Reports

Please be advised that student Semester 1 Academic Reports will be available for parents via our Compass Portal as of 6.00pm Friday 24th June.


Major Events Term 3

I wish to outline some of our major events that are scheduled for Term 3, so that parents/guardians have enough time to prepare and make the necessary family arrangements to ensure they are able to attend these events where required. 

 

Week 1:                                          

Year 9 Careers Profiling (Morrisby Vocational Profiling)      

                       

Week 2:

Tuesday 19th July:                           

Junior Mid Year Honours Evening (6.30pm)

Thursday 21st July:                          

Senior Mid Year Honours Evening (6.30pm)

Session 2 Year 10 into VCE student Course Briefing

Friday 22nd July:                              

Session  4 Year 9 into 10 student Course Briefing

Year 8 into 9 student Course Briefing (TBA)

 

Week 3:

Monday 25th July:                         

Year 10 into VCE Parent Information evening 

(5.30pm – 7.30pm)

 

 

Wednesday 27th July:                  

 Year 8 into 9 (5.30pm – 6.30pm), Year 9 into 10 (7.00pm – 7.30pm) Parent Information evening

 

Parents and students will be able to access information regarding student subject

selections for 2023 during the evenings listed above. I encourage all parents to attend

these evenings with their child to ensure they have a clear understanding about the

specific subject selection requirements for their child in 2023.

 

Week 6:                                   

Tuesday 16th August:                   

Term 3 Parent/Teacher Interviews (4.00pm – 7.00pm)

Wednesday 17th August:          

 Term 3 Parent/Teacher interviews (9.00am – 12.00pm) 

 

No scheduled classes on this day

Interviews will be conducted face to face in 311 during the above times 


Junior and Senior Honours Evenings 

I wish to advise all parents that our Junior School and Senior School Honours Evenings are scheduled for Tuesday 19th July and Thursday 21st July (respectively) from 6.30pm in Room 311. All students receiving Semester 1 Honours will be notified by email over the school holiday break. If your child is receiving an award on this night you are more than welcome to invite other family members and close friends, to join in the celebrations. All students will receive a framed A4 Honours Certificate listing all subjects with a grade average of 80% or above.


Congratulations 

On behalf of the entire Lara Secondary College community, I wish to congratulate Year 12 student Angus Alberts on his 3rd place achievement in the Under 20’s Shot Put event at the Athletics Oceania Championships from the 7th to 12th June in Mackay, Queensland. Well done Angus, we are all so proud of your achievement.

 

I also wish to congratulate Year 11 student Brodie Haugh who has been named in The Victorian School Boys Rugby Union Squad as Vice-Captain. Brodie will be travelling to Sydney to play against the best in Australia and hoping to be selected in the “Australian Schoolboys Team”. 

 

Brodie was also named in the U18 Melbourne Rebels Academy Squad and he will be representing The Melbourne Rebels this Friday night against The Western Force and on Sunday against the QLD Reds. He will then fly to Canberra to compete against the ACT Brumbies on 2nd July.

 

Brodie intends to try and achieve a career in Rugby whilst achieving a Secondary Teaching Degree at Deakin University in the future.


Acting Principal (Term 3) 

I wish to inform all parents and students that I will be taking leave for the first 6 weeks of Term 3.

 

My daughter (Emily) lives in Warrnambool and her and her partner are expecting their first child in the later part of July.

 

My wife and I wish to re-locate to Warrnambool throughout the 6 weeks in order to support my daughter and her partner before and after the baby arrives.

 

Tania O’Callaghan will be the Acting Principal in my absence during this time and Rowan Hore will be the Acting Assistant Principal for the Senior School (backfilling Tania O’Callaghan’s role as Assistant Principal).

 

I wish all students and parents a happy and safe mid year holiday break and look forward to seeing your smiling faces when I return on Monday 22nd August,

 

Please be aware that Term 3 begins on Monday 11th July.
