Significant Events

Semester One Events

Working collaboratively and demonstrating the Doncaster Secondary College values of teamwork and respect has been a key ingredient in the successful running of the Significant Events team in the first half of the year.

Staff, student, and agency consultation and support has resulted in the ability to identify and recognize these significant dates in a variety of ways: promotion in the Newsletter, screens around the school, mini-school specific or school-wide events. All are avenues in providing opportunities for students to learn about or get involved and show support to these activities.

For the Significant Events and Wellbeing Events team this has included:

  • promotion of International Women's Day on the screens and through the music of female artists being played during class breaks
  • the promotion and commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin and Northern Australia, shared and promoted through DISCovery classes with a short film created by year 12 student, Jordan Moll
  • the highlighting and promotion of Pay It Forward Day
  • ANZAC Day commemorations, at the College led by the SRC, RSL Doncaster Dawn Service, RSL Doncaster Mates Matters Luncheon.
  • a collaboration between the Wellbeing team and Junior school to raise awareness of the National Day of Action against bullying and violence, that included making a banner
  • a student-led stall for ASD Awareness Day
  • National Careers Week promoted by an SRC out-of-uniform day.
  • activities and promotion of Trans day of visibility and IDAHOBIT led by the Rainbow Collective and supported by Manningham Youth Services,
  • Harmony week initiative promoting the belief that ‘Everyone Belongs’ resulting in over 100 positive messages from students and the Persian New Year celebrations that also fell into this week,

  • a Reconciliation Week event that  included banner making, a fire pit, indigenous music played at breaks and a pancake breakfast
  • World Environment Day and the planting of native species sourced by the Wellbeing team through Bunnings, Doncaster
  • a presentation targeting senior students during Men’s Health Week, developed in consultation with peers and shared by year 12 student Jordan Moll
  • the recognition of Refugee Week through on-screen presentations and the display of the students’ inspiration quotes collected during Harmony week

This has been a wonderful achievement for all involved and the team is looking forward to developing, promoting and acknowledging important days and events in the coming months/ second half of 2022.
