School Advisory Council

Over the coming weeks, we are going to share a brief bio of our School Advisory Council Members.

This week: Mark Butters

About Me:

My name is Mark Butters and I have been a teacher here at St. Joseph's for the past four years. I moved to Beechworth 8 years ago after moving up from Melbourne with my partner Hannah.  I completed my last two teaching placements at St. Joseph's and the staff and students made a huge impression on me. I was very lucky to get a position teaching at the school the year after finishing my studies. I have three sons, Harry (7) in Grade 1, Leo (6) in Foundation and Tom (3).

Why I am on/ value the School Advisory Council:

This year, I moved into a position of leadership at the school and Carly asked if I would be keen to attend School Advisory Council Meetings. I was happy for the opportunity to see how it works as I also have a vested interest in two of my sons attending St. Joseph's. After attending the first meeting I remarked to Carly how terrific the group was. To see a group of people so keen to have a positive impact on our school makes us very lucky.

What do you love about St. Joseph’s:

When I arrived home after my first placement at St. Joseph's, I said to Hannah that I wanted to work at the school. The staff were, and still are, incredibly inclusive of new people. The students are incredible. My own children enjoy coming to school and I'm really proud to be part of St. Joseph's, particularly when we are actively engaged in such positive ways around the town.
