MATHS FUN FOR THE HOLIDAY

Over the holidays, remember there is maths all around you!!  Encourage your children to engage in mathematics through simple everyday activities such as shopping, cooking, travel and games.

Activities that are helpful for your children in practising their maths skills include:

  • Measuring the ingredients when cooking
  • Using Google Maps or a paper map to help to give directions or follow directions when travelling
  • Allowing them to pay for shopping and calculate the change
  • Giving them an allowance when on holidays and encouraging them to budget their money
  • Playing simple games such as snakes and ladders, cards, etc to improve their counting and addition skills
  • Playing some maths games that allow them to target specific skills in a fun and engaging way. There are a number of maths games that only require simple resources such as paper, pen, dice or cards on the Love Maths website.
