Year 4

Meet our wonderful teachers...

Year 4A: Delani Cruse (Team Leader)

Hello SMPS students and families!

My name is Miss Delani and I am so excited to join the SMPS community in 2023. This will be my seventh year of teaching and I have previously taught Grade 3 and Prep. This year at SMPS I will be teaching 4A and I cannot wait!

When I am not at school you will probably find me running around the Tan or the lake or eating pasta at different restaurants around Melbourne with my friends. During the footy season you will see me wearing my Carlton scarf and hopefully celebrating lots of wins in 2023! Go Blues!!

My dad is Sri Lankan so I love visiting Sri Lanka in the holidays, eating Sri Lankan food like string hoppers and kottu rotti and, of course, watching Sri Lanka play cricket!

I can’t wait to meet you all in 2023, it is going to be a fantastic year.

Year 4B: Yasmin Dall

Hello SMPS Students and Families!

My name is Miss Yasmin, and I will be teaching Grade 4B in 2023. This is my second year at South Melbourne Primary school! Every day I feel so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful teaching team and school community.

A little bit about me, I am half Australian and half Malaysian Chinese. Prior to moving to Melbourne over ten years ago, I grew up and spent eighteen years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During this time I was lucky enough to embrace the Asian culture where I was able to travel to many South East Asian countries and learn how to speak Malay and basic Mandarin. My hobbies involve many creative activities such as: ceramics, painting and furniture restorations! You may also find me spending time gardening on the weekends or finding a new mountain to hike.

Next year, I look forward to getting to know many more of the SMPS students and their families!

Year 4C: Bec Newman

Hello SMPS students and families,

My name is Miss Bec and I am so excited to be teaching Grade 4C at SMPS this year. I am originally from NSW, and I started my teaching career there before moving to London for a few years and teaching there too.

I really like to travel and see new places, and when I lived in London I was lucky enough to visit lots of different countries. In 2020 I moved to Melbourne, and I love it here! I have had a great time teaching in several different classes at SMPS, including as a Specialist Teacher recently teaching Environmental Education. I like to spend my free time being outside, having picnics in the park or going for runs. I have lots of plants at my house which I love to look after, including a veggie garden!

I’m passionate about looking after our environment and I loved sharing this passion while teaching Environmental Education.

I can’t wait to learn with the wonderful Grade 4 students next year.
