The Year Draws to a Close!

Principals Report

Colour Explosion Success!

A huge thank you to the fabulous Syndal South School community for making our ‘Colour Explosion” such a successful fun event. Special thanks to those who set up before the event and packed up at the end of the evening. Thank you to those who worked tirelessly on the food stall, you were amazing. A huge thank you to Eric and Michelle Huppe who were the driving force behind this fantastic event. The initial indications are that we have raised approximately $4000, which will go towards purchasing literacy books and furniture for the new building. It took us by surprise the number of attendees, we do apologise for the long wait at the food stall something we can learn from for the next event. As promised, we have a number of fabulous photos below for you to enjoy illustrating the fun and frivolity had by all on the night (more photos can be found in the gallery).

Congratulations

On Monday evening Nayanka from Year 4 was presented with the Sporting Attitude Award at the Rotary Club of Waverley Awards Night. The recipient is chosen on attitude rather than ability, displaying a genuine spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, humble in victory and gracious in defeat, always trying to the best of her ability, supportive of teammates, and courteous to opponents, plays the game for the fun of the game. Congratulations, Nayanka.

Writer’s Workshop

Last Thursday Andrea Hillbrick, the learning and teaching consultant who has been working with our staff over the past two years on the teaching of writing, facilitated two student writing workshops; the morning workshop was for a small group of students from Foundation to Year 2 and in the afternoon a small group from Years 3 and 4. It was a huge success with the students producing and publishing a great piece of writing to entertain an audience. We look forward to engaging next year to run some more student workshops.

Terrific Kids Awards

On Monday, Anne Wilson from the Kiwanis Club will be at our special assembly to present the Term 4 Terrific Kids Awards.

Year 6 Graduation

Next Monday evening our Year 6 families and friends will celebrate the graduation of our fifty-two students at a new venue the ‘Pavilion’ in Box Hill. The format of the evening will include the students enjoying a meal together followed by the formal graduation ceremony and the presentation of awards, to mark the end of their 7 years of primary schooling.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the Year 6 teachers and the Specialist teachers in 2022 for their dedication and commitment to ensuring that Year 6’s final year at SSPS was a memorable one.

On behalf of all the SSPS community, I wish all the graduating Year 6 students a wonderful start to their secondary schooling in 2022 and that all their dreams for the future be realised.

School Captains

Special thanks to Advika and Ziyad for being such wonderful role models and ambassadors in their role as school captains for SSPS. Advika and Ziyad supported each other and worked as a great team sharing responsibilities throughout the year. I have seen their confidence, public speaking, and organisational skills grow throughout the year. Thank you and well done!

2023 Student Placement

On Tuesday students will be given the opportunity to meet their 2023 class teacher and find out who their classmates will be in 2023. Many hours have been spent on the creation of these classes, considering the needs of students, balancing academic performance and gender. We ask you to support the placements made and speak positively to your child about the year ahead for them.

Thank you

A special thank you to all our families who over the year have sent cakes, biscuits chocolates and recently delicious donuts to school for the staff to enjoy. A look of delight on the staff faces as they enter the staffroom is evidence enough of how these treats of appreciation are received.

Retirement NEWS

Yes, it’s true after 16 years of relentless dedication and service Joe our crossing supervisor is retiring. It’s been a year of celebration with Joe celebrating his 90th birthday earlier and now his retirement. Thank you, Joe, from all of us at Syndal South Primary School for your dedication ensuring the safety of our school community over the past 16 years. We will be making  a special presentation to Joe at our final assembly on Tuesday at 1.00pm.

Final Assembly and Early Dismissal

All students will be dismissed at 1.30pm on Tuesday. Before the dismissal, we will be holding a final farewell assembly at 1.00pm. We will be acknowledging students leaving SSPS F-6.  The 2023 School Captains will be announced, and Year 6 graduating students will be singing their graduation song. Parents are most welcome to attend our final assembly for 2022.

Finally, the end of school is a perfect time to reflect on our achievements throughout the year and to show gratitude for the work and support of the wonderful school community I’d like to thank the school community (staff, students, and parents) for their support throughout the year.

To those families and staff who are leaving our school community, I would like to wish you all the very best for the future and thank you for your amazing contribution over your years at SSPS. I am already well aware of the loss you will be to the SSPS community!

It is now time for all of us to take a well-earned rest and spend some additional relaxing time with our families and friends and loved ones, we all deserve it. I look forward to contributing and working with all members of the SSPS community in 2023.

I sincerely wish everyone a very safe and happy festive season with their families and friends.
