“Maths Olympiad is a competition that occurs every year. It challenges students with five logical maths questions that can stump even the brightest of mathematicians. The five questions cover all topics of maths from measurement & geometry to algebra and the four operations. The students get 30 minutes per session and must work on their own. Students will grow and learn from their mistakes, and everyone comes out as a winner, even if they do not get a patch or trophy. Math Olympiad is an all round great experience for students and helps them learn and grow.” - Carter Pearce
The Junior Division Olympiad (Division J) is specifically designed to stimulate and challenge students at the primary school level. It teaches essential problem solving strategies and strengthens students’ mathematical intuition prior to starting high school.
The main aims of the program are to:
- Introduce students to important mathematical concepts.
- Teach major strategies and develop flexibility for problem solving.
- Foster creativity and ingenuity and strengthen intuition.
- Stimulate enthusiasm and enjoyment of mathematics.
- Provide the satisfaction, joy and thrill of meeting challenges.
This year all students in Year 6 took part in the Olympiad and it was fantastic to see the progress each student made throughout the year.
We had two different groups with group one having two student winners
Carter P 6CG and Jack N 6JS both scored 21/25 and placed in the top 10% of all students in Australia and New Zealand.
Group Two was won by Dylan G 6CG with a score of 16/25 and placed in the top 25% of all students in Australia and New Zealand.
Special Mentions also to the following students, who also placed in the top 25%.
All students will be presented with their awards at the Year 6 awards assembly.
