Learn(ing) to Swim

Two weeks of Learn to Swim at Oceania is currently underway. Students have been participating enthusiastically and working on both water safety and stroke improvement. They have been using kickboards, noodles, blowing out candles underwater, floating, torpedoing, retrieving items off the bottom of the pool, jumping off the diving blocks and swimming laps for the more experienced. Plenty of fun is being had and invaluable skills learned.

A reminder to keep up the fluids and fuel (good healthy snacks) after school as the swimming can make the students a little tired and hungry.

Hopefully the students will use their new or practiced swimming skills in the next few months of summer. Choose a nice calm day at the beach and practice those torpedoes or try diving down to grab some sand off the ocean floor. I can recommend Opossum Bay as a good swimming place for kids and a family outing. It is sheltered and often the water is very still and clear.

Enjoy!
