Boat Club News

On Sunday 27th November we had the official opening of our new pontoons and the christening of two new boats. The new pontoons have been a long time in the making taking 7 years of planning to completion. This project becomes the 4th major upgraded of the Boatshed since 1961 when it was constructed. The School Council fully supported and assisted in financing the project. The Boat Club and school rowing community would like to thank the Ballarat High School Council for their support.

We would also like to thank Warren Gosby, our main builder and his right-hand man Josh. Many hours of consultation were put into this. Thanks to Stewart Brown and his sons Darcy and Jack, for ripping out the old jetty and all other people who chipped in along the way such and Len Simmonds, Paul Bilson, Glenn Kallio and Chris Weir.

These pontoons made by Poralu, France, are constructed with aluminium and plastic making them strong, durable and gentle on the boats. They also come with a 30 year guarantee.

The new senior boys first boat was named after Michelle McIntosh (#203). Michelle rowed in the early 90s and was a part of the 1991 winning girls first crew. After rowing she continued on in the boatshed coaching and running the fitness circuits. After a break, Michelle returned to coaching in 2016 to 2019. Michelle shows the grit and determination needed in rowing and through her coaching, has passed this on to her athletes! Congratulations Michelle!

Our new junior girls quad scull was named after the Bilson Family. This family has been a huge contributor to the Boat Club for over 10 years and has had a significantly positive impact on the Boat Club - a combined total of 14 years of coaching, 8 years on the Boat Club committee, countless volunteer days at BBQ,s and events. The Bilsons have made a big impact on the Ballarat High School Boatshed. Congratulations to Paul (father), Helen (mother), Remi (eldest daughter) and Milli (youngest daughter).
