Foundation News

The Foundation area has been bubbling with lots of fantastic activities.

On Friday 27 September we celebrated our 100th day at school! It was wonderful to see all the Foundation students dressed as 100 year old grandmas and grandpas. We paraded around the GP room so all our parents could see our amazing outfits! Mr Meredith and parents helped us to count to 100 for the final time and we sung our special “100 days of school” song. Later in the morning our Level 6 Buddies came and made a glittery crown with us. We counted our jar of Minties to make sure that it was, in fact, the 100th day of school and then we all got to eat one! It was a fantastic day that we will all remember for a very long time! Thanks to all Foundation families who made their children look incredible!

On Wednesday 1 August we travelled by bus to Taskworks. The students participated in a variety of activities that required them to work together, communicate and apply the forces of push and pull.  Some of the activities included dismantling and rebuilding a robot, using giant puzzle blocks to create a tower and to be the fastest team out of a cable maze. We all had a great day and would like to thank the parent helpers who came along and were a tremendous help.

War & Peace

It was a busy week for the Level 5&6 students (and their teachers). On Monday we set off for the city to take in a visit to the Shrine of Remembrance and the Museum. We are learning all about Australia’s involvement in Conflicts throughout our time as a nation, heroes and individuals who have impacted our nation and how these conflicts have impacted the people of Australia.

We learnt about the importance of the Shrine when it was built as a memorial to those from Victoria who sacrificed their lives in WW1, whilst the Museum has a display called ‘Love and Sorrow’, a pictorial display of 8 individuals who served in some form throughout WW1 and their correspondence with loved ones who remained in Australia.

On Tuesday we made the trek to the 1000 steps in the Dandenongs and undertook the ‘gruelling’ challenge of making it to the top of the steps. For those who haven’t been to the steps, it has also been set up as a memorial path for the soldiers who served on the Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea in WW2. We reflected on the difficult physical nature of the walk but also highlighted that the soldiers were carrying up to 45kg of back pack and weapons and had to contend with enemy soldiers and the threat of disease.
