Year 4

Year 4 Camp Recounts

Click! Clack! I was harnessed up, one more turn then I was up. “Pull the rope” screamed the lady in charge. All the students heaved on the rope, then everyone was chanting 3,2,1, wish they were off it looked high. Suddenly someone called my name I was up…

The next thing I knew was that I was hanging in mid air getting the last rope hooked up to me. Here I go 3,2,1, “pull the rope.” I was going up, then at the top I stopped. I was frightened 3,2,1, go! Was the last thing I heard before I yanked on a green ball, fwoosh! I was off. It was the best moment of my life hanging there 18 m up in the sky.

As my peers energetically pulled me into the jaws of this wooden beast. As my shaking body got pulled into the clear warming sky my body towered over everything. I felt like a tree sprouting up into the sky of pressure. I was immediately stopped hanging in limbo but as the countdown started I felt as vulgar as an ape.

I pulled back and as soon as I did a wave of anxiety washed over me as I felt like a weightless swinging pendulum. As I swung back and forth just like the rest it gave the illusion of falling to a messy sticky death every time I swung downwards and swinging forward made me feel like a predator about to jump his meal.

When my awestruck feet finally touched the smooth now present ground I started to explode with euphoria but as the predator slinks back into the wild so did I as the next person stood up to the mouth of the beast

Step after step, I was slowly making my way up the thick, wooden pole while where my hands were shaking because I was so stressed. I climbed up the tiny U-shaped pegs, holding onto them for dear life. I had butterflies in my stomach. I knew I had a harness on but I was still terrified of falling. The closer I got to the small, square wooden platform, my hands were sweating even more, like I had just dipped them in a bucket of luke warm water.

I finally got to it but I was continuously looking down. I put 1 foot on and held onto the edge then chucked the other leg on. I did it! I got to the top! “3-!” everyone called, but I just wanted to get it over and done with, so I jumped. My legs were shaking and my lips were dry. I was so relieved that all this drama was over.

Woosh! The wind was swishing in my eyes. It was very cold and dark. The sky was turning black. All the campers started to get up a high hill, we saw a beautiful glowing sunset. We all took a photo infront of the bright sun and went down the bumpy, muddy, wet, hill. As we all got down the hill, I could see the pretty horses. I got in the gate and saw so many tall horses. Some horses came up to me. I was a bit terrified so my friend comforted me. When I got out of the gate I turned on my flash light and peacefuly walked. While I got up and down hills and hills my legs were felling weaker and weaker every time. When we were about to go in our cabins, Dave told us about things near the camp. Then we went in our cozy cabins I stretched my legs and slept soundly.
