Year 3

Inquiry - Our Community and Environment

This term the Year 3 students have been exploring the big idea of ‘How can we make our community a better place?’ The students have explored the concept of how does reducing, reusing and recycling waste make a difference to our community?

The Year 3’s completed an audit of the rubbish in the school yard. They picked up and sorted all the rubbish that was found into different categories; compost materials, paper, soft plastics and recyclable materials. It was shock to see how many soft plastics were found in the school yard.

The students worked together in small groups to identify problems or issues within our school community and find possible solutions to make a positive impact on the environment within our school. They wrote letters to Chris and Marcus and created posters to inform the school community about their environmental projects.
