Basketball trials for all age groups will be held during lunchtimes and after school this term in the school gym at Chatswood. Students will be directed to see me to put their name on the trials lists. All students will need to be attentive to announcements made at our Friday morning sports assemblies and in morning homeroom and information placed into the Daily Notices. Year 7 will be trialling first and announcements will be made each week throughout the term until trials are completed.
Due to the large number of students trialling and the winter season concluding it is difficult for me to set specific times at this stage as trials will be held when the school gym is available. Students who are playing a winter sport must attend their regular training session and trial when they are free from winter commitments if there is a clash.
Separate trials will be held for A Teams, B Teams etc and students can trial for more than one team. Specific teams will be announced as they are finalised and trials will continue until all students have trialled.
Students will need to communicate with me if they are injured and unable to trial so that they can be considered for a team and trial when they are able to do so. If in doubt please contact me.

Dear Parents and Players,
Welcome back to football in Term 3 with a short, sharp run to the end of the season. We are right into the business end of the season with all teams still in the finals picture.
Congratulations to the SPX 1st XI Football team, and their coach Mr Steven Quilty, on their success in the inaugural July Cup in the holidays at Oxford Falls. They defeated Kings 5-1, Riverview 1-0 and Sydney Grammar 3-0 to lift the Trophy. This win sets them up well for the ISA season conclusion where we play St Andrew's, St Pat's and Chevalier before the play off finals.
Please see the draw below. Good luck to all teams this weekend.

FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS
We hope all our boys are rested and ready for the finals push with just a couple of rounds left before Finals time. Many of our teams are well placed to reach the finals and we wish them all well.
The Football Camp held over the holidays was very successful with over 60 boys attending, feedback from coaches and boys is that it was a great 3 days. We will look to continue to run these during the holidays.
As we are nearing the end of the regular season we now ask that each team submit a team photo that will be included in the ‘Season in Review’ publication that will be produced at the end of the season. Send the team photos and any other action shots you may have taken throughout the season to footballspx@gmail.com
Also don’t forget to book your table for the Trivia Night. All moneys raised go to the various Clubs within the College.

Congratulations to the 2017 Queensland Tour Squad who won the 2nd Division Competition at the Gold Coast Rugby Carnival. Not only did the team go through the tournament undefeated, they did not concede a single point in all five matches. Special mentions to Joe Hinchey who took out the Players Player Award and Nathaniel Panozzo who was given the Coaches Award. Thanks must go to the coaching staff who gave up their holidays to travel with the boys. Well done to all involved.

FROM THE RUGBY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
"Fast Action"
After a three week layoff and against a team that are travelling a long way to play us, it’s time to switch on right from the kick off. Before the break our commitment and enthusiasm was really high and we were playing some really exciting running rugby. We know St Stanislaus will be tough and used to dealing with the long coach ride. We have to accept this challenge and start our games strongly and at pace. Here are three areas we can focus on.
Great to be back at Oxford Falls.

(1) SPX Rugby Club Dinner: Thank you for your attendance and support – over $36K was raised. We would like to thank all who contributed to the evening and the 220 attendees at the recent SPX Rugby Club Dinner, who through their generosity and whilst having a most enjoyable evening, assisted us in raising over $36,000 from the dinner and the associated major raffle. These funds will be utilised by the SPX Rugby Club to continue assisting the College with the ongoing development of the Rugby Program at St Pius X College and hopefully adding to the enjoyment that each of the SPX Rugby players receives from their chosen winter sport.
Please click below to see the attached Placemat from the Dinner which lists the contributors to the night. We would be most grateful if you would give consideration to giving preference to these individuals and businesses when considering purchases of goods and services.

We have secured the whole first floor for ourselves for the function. This will NOT be a fundraising night. It is simply a way for the Rugby Club to say thank you to all the teachers, coaches, support staff, mums, dads, grandmas, granddads and others who have been there every week supporting the SPX Rugby boys and being an active part of our SPX Rugby Community. It’s the week of the SPX College Rugby Presentation Night, a Bledisloe Cup match night (on the screen at the hotel) and the right time to celebrate a very successful and enjoyable SPX 2017 Rugby season! The venue may sell out early so we recommend that you book your FREE tickets ASAP by going to the TryBooking Direct Link https://www.trybooking.com/299087
