Principal's Report

Welcome BBQ

Tomorrow night is our Welcome BBQ. This is a great opportunity for our school community to come together at the start of the year and reconnect with one another. Our Parents Association will be running a BBQ with sausages and drinks, and teachers will run a few games for students to enjoy. The weather forecast is looking less desirable than we would like it to be, so please look out for updates in the event we need to postpone the evening.

New Playground

It has been wonderful to see our students using the new playground this week and the students have given it a big thumbs up. We are currently rotating which year level has access to the playground so that all students have the opportunity to play. Once the excitement settles down a little we will be able to move into the new play space structure as follows:

  • Top playground (the one next to the flag pole) - Foundation, Year 1, Year 2
  • New Playground: Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4
  • The Big A: Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6

The playground at the very front of the school will be removed later this year, and until this time it is open to our Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students.

We believe providing options for students to play will build our student relationships as they have a wider range of students to interact with on the each playground, which meets the wide range of developmental needs of each child.

Sick Bay

We often have students come up to sickbay who are feeling unwell. While they are in sickbay they are looked after until they are either ready to return to class or if we feel that they may need to be collected school we will contact families. What can often occur, is that students arrive at sickbay and tell us that 'Mum/Dad said that if I felt sick I can go home'.

One of our goals this year is to improve student attendance at school and developing our students understanding that being at school is important every day unless you are very unwell. The decision for a student to be picked up is one made by families in consultation with the teachers or office staff.  What we observe is that a student who has been told that they will go home if they feel sick at school will be more likely to come up to the sickbay with the expectation that they will get collected. If your child becomes too unwell to remain at school we will contact you and discuss what is happening with you, often we will ask you to speak with your child as you know them best.
