Year 10 Reflection Day

Last Friday 6 March saw all of Year 10 travel to our Oxford Falls complex for our first Reflection Day, based upon the themes of "New Beginnings" and "Journey". These themes, along with the idea of maturity set the scene for a productive day whereby the young men of Year 10 began to understand that maturity is closely linked to the ability to consider others – to be empathetic. The Gospel story of Jesus in the wilderness, giving himself time to consider his future and where he was ‘meant’ to be formed the start of the day. Students were challenged to consider whether they were doing what they said and believed or whether their words contradicted their actions.

The idea of "Journey" was explored through the life and experiences of our guest presenter, former Socceroo Captain, Paul Wade. Paul was able to share his ideas of growth and maturity through his experiences as a professional footballer. The jerseys that he wore and swapped with opposition players formed the basis of his presentation. Having lived with epilepsy and finally having surgery to treat this condition, Paul was left with the loss of his short term memory. Regardless of this he still continues to work as a presenter and commentator.

Mr Russo concluded the day with a session on relaxation so that students would be armed with the ability to deal with the stressors of senior study.

Chapel Mass

Our second Chapel Mass of the year was hosted by Mr Donnelly’s Year 7 RE class. Thanks to Fr Jim for celebrating and providing a thought provoking homily. While there are churches around the world that can not be open for worship, Fr Jim highlighted how fortunate we were to gather together to share in the Eucharist. We look forward to Mr Kovacic’s Year 7 RE Class 4 hosting our next Chapel Mass on 24 March.

Junior School Bible Liturgy and Leadership Pledge

Tuesday 10 March provided a special opportunity for the Junior School to gather at the parish of Our Lady of Dolours. Unlike the Commencement Mass where the juniors were required to sit around the altar, here the Junior School took pride of place in the front pews. Our Liturgy began with a focus on the special place that the Bible takes in the lives of Catholics around the world. This sacred text provides a moral compass for Catholics on how to act, as well as the basis of our faith. Students of Year 5 received their own Bible and were asked to take special care of it during their time at the College. Mr Patterson provided a reflection of the Bible in his life. He even produced his very own Bible that was over 60 years old. The boys were asked to use their Bible as a guide and regular source of inspiration, worship and study.

Our Year 6 students, as the leaders of the Junior School took a pledge of leadership to ensure that they respected each others' needs and to live by the values found in the Gospels.
