Prayer

The school continues to collect for Project Compassion as part of our Lenten journey and I thank the many families who continue to contribute. I share with you today’s Gospel reading for your Lenten reflection as we are now in Week 3 of Lent.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to St Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples:  "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or protect the prophets.  I have come not to abolish but to fulfil.

Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.

Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven.  But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Term 2 Principal's Leave

Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) have approved my application for Leave for Term 2, 2018. This leave will be a combination of personal leave and professional renewal and I look forward to returning in Term 3 to continue the excellent work being undertaken across the school.

EREA has appointed Mr Mark Casey to be Acting Principal in Term 2. EREA has also appointed Mr Sean Brannan as Acting Deputy Principal in Term 2. It is with great confidence that I support these appointments and thank Mr Casey and Mr Brannan for accepting these significant roles to enable my period of leave.

2018 St Pius X College Annual Improvement Plan

The College Board has now endorsed the 2018 Annual Improvement Plan. It is a very comprehensive plan and I commend it to you. The plan is attached and also available on the College website.

P&F Meeting last Monday 5th March

A very successful meeting was held last Monday evening and I thank those parents who came along.  I also thank Mr Long for his presentation. I encourage as many parents as possible to come to the P&F meetings.

One of the goals of the P&F this year is to encourage as many parents as possible to actively engage with the P&F and attend the meetings which are held only once per term.

The next P&F event will be the Cocktail Party which will be held here in the College at Chatswood on Friday 6th April. Please see the P&F section for details.

National Day Against Bullying and Violence

Friday 16th March

On Friday 16th March St Pius X College will join with schools across the nation in unity against Bullying and to build a stronger community where we care for each other and the students support  their peers.

Attached is a letter from the Prime Minister to Principals and I share that with you.

ISA Summer Sports Finals this Saturday 10th March

It was a big day of competition in Cricket and Basketball last weekend and congratulations to our semi-finalists who played.   Our First XI cricketers went down to St Patrick’s Strathfield but I am very proud of the season from the First XI.

Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

This week is Catholic Schools Week across New South Wales and we celebrate this especially with our Open Day, acknowledging the many efforts and contributions of our Catholic School to the community.  In the recent release from Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (CCER) they published the interesting facts about the number of students and staff in Catholic Schools in NSW alone.  I share this with you to highlight the contribution that Catholic Schools make in NSW in educating approximately 20% of youth.
