VicSRC Workshop

On Friday, the 21st of April, seven of the Year 11 executive SRC members travelled to Sunshine to attend a workshop provided by the VicSRC that focused on helping student leaders develop their skills. We learnt about how to tackle issues in the community, by using the ALTER method as a guide. The speakers emphasised the importance of the steps of Asking, Listening, Thinking, Enacting and Reflecting when trying to solve problems that our individual schools faced. We considered which members of the community were listened to the most and what some of the most effective ways of getting feedback from them were. This workshop also allowed us to have the chance to talk to student leaders of other schools and gain insight, as well as give advice on how Student Leadership can be run. We made lots of progress in planning the new project that we are excited to tackle when we return to school. – Jilian Ng, Year 11

ANZAC Day

On Friday the 21st of April, the school celebrated ANZAC Day with a Teamwork assembly. We heard from Kevin Murray, the Secretary of the Melton RSL. School Captains Ben Akok and Stephanie Novak and Vice Captains Matias Garro and Brianna Argall spoke about what teamwork looks like at Melton Secondary College and shared the story of Sir Edward Weary Dunlop, the army surgeon who is  well known for his medical work and leadership during the Second World War with prisoners of the Japanese on the Thai–Burma Railway. Our school leaders and Mr Kershaw also attended the Dawn Service in Melton and laid a wreath on behalf of the school.
