DRAFT Term Dates for 2019
The Mosman Youth Awards in Literature
The Mosman Youth Awards in Literature are prestigious literary awards, and this year St Pius’ James Bellenger, Tallis Pryor and Matthew Felice of Year 9 along with Luca Vincenzia of Year 7 were chosen to be shortlisted. So it was with excitement and anticipation that we all attended.
While none of the boys won the coveted top prize, having so many students shortlisted is a great achievement for the school and its budding writers. Our youngest entrant Luca was Highly Commended and Matthew Felice’s story of his uncle’s accident and consequent paralysis was chosen to be read to the audience of the shortlisted and their families.
With over 400 entries, the judges emphasised that making the shortlist was in itself a great achievement. The quality of those shortlisted made it difficult to pick the winners and all showed enormous creativity along with their superior writing skills.
There was an interesting range of themes from all the entrants from the personal to important issues such as gender equality and the amount of violence in the world. Readings from the competition demonstrated the incredible talent of these young writers. The future of our shortlisted St Pius stars looks bright. Congratulations boys.
