Mad race
On the 8th of October MERT (Mt Eliza Racing Team) had quite the early start, 7:30 at school to be packed and on the bus by 8:00am. The bus ride was short, only a 40 minute drive, but the singing lasted the whole day and the drive home.
When the bus arrived, the pits and marquee had already been set up, we just had to take all our bags over and get the carts out. The numbers were stuck on the carts, the racing orders were sorted and and sheets were signed, the race was starting. The starter in Xpected (senior team) was Alex Young, Speed Demons (junior mix team) was Lachlan Harrison and Dinky Dots (Year 7 female team) started with Carolyn.
The race lasted for 8 hours with people getting in and out of the trikes, tyres popping, steering columns crumbling, spaghetti spilling and Gatorade splashing.
We spent a few hours marshalling and rattled the carts going too fast. The race ended and Gatorade was pored over the people in the trikes and the awards were given.
The day had almost ended, we were tired and burnt but our excitement lived on with our singing the whole way home.
That was our last ride with Dinky Dots and Speed Demons carts, we said our goodbyes and locked up the shed. And that was the day the music died.
