Escape from Pompeii

Senior Ancient History

Twenty five eager Ancient History students, Ms Haskett and Ms Wicks travelled back in time to 79AD Pompeii by partaking in the Senior Student Symposium at the Australian Maritime Museum on Thursday 25th May.  We started our journey by donning 3D glasses and experiencing the Mount Vesuvius erupting.  Then we had a rare chance to meet two eminent experts in Roman History, Professor Andrew Wallace Hadrill and Associate Professor Peter Keegan. They both discussed their work and offered insights into investigating and interpreting Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Finally we had an exclusive tour of the Escape from Pompeii Exhibition with our tour guides, examining rare artefacts from the Naples Museum.

S Haskett, Head Teacher - History

The best part was the presentations.  Professor Wallace Hadrill was a good speaker and he went into depth about what he was talking about, even if he looked like Harry Potter. Shannon and Jasmine - Year 12

It was packed with student! It was educational, engaging and interactive. Thumbs up!  Phillip, Denise and Jayne  - Year 11
