From the Acting Principal,

Victoria Graham

Dear Parents/Carers

We were blessed with a brief snap of sunshine yesterday for Joe and his Marimba band to entertain us with their Assembly Performance. What a display of skill, concentration and discipline! Next week at our final Assembly for Term 2 we will look forward to MU1 performing.

Look who came to visit

Yesterday we had a special visit from Mr Spilsted and daughter, Stevie.   We are pleased to report, mum, dad and bubs are all doing well.

Frosts

Recently we have had a few frosty mornings and I’m sure we can expect a few more. Please take extra care on these morning on the deck areas, as they are extremely slippery!

Garden Market at School

Next Monday after school, Nicole and her Gardening Group will have some produce from our garden for sale for a modest price so we can continue to fund our school garden. See Nicole’s report for more details.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Please remember that next Thursday 27th July is a Pupil Free Day so that Parent Teacher Interviews can be conducted. Students are not required at school that day unless it is for their Interview time. I know the Senior Students in particular have been busy preparing for their Student Led Interviews to help prepare for Secondary School. If you have not made a time, please book a time through Compass.

Junior School Council News...

On Wednesday the 26th of June we will be having a dress-up day to celebrate the end of term and help to raise money for our school.

Our theme is ‘Movie Characters!’ Please bring a gold coin donation and come dressed as your favourite movie character. The money raised will go towards the new games and four square line marking on the netball court for all students to use. We can’t wait to see our school swarming with famous movie stars!

Below is some dress up day inspiration as suggested by your Junior School Council Reps:

Last Day Term 2

Next Friday is the last day of Term 2 and as usual school will finish at 2.30 pm. Students will be having an earlier lunch so that we can hold Assembly at 2.00 pm. The first day of Term 3 is Monday 15th July.

Principal Position

The Selection process for appointing our new Principal is still in progress and will continue until the end of this term. Once the selection panel has made their decision, their recommendation goes to School Council and after that, to the Department for final approval. This can sometimes take up to one week, so we may not know who the successful applicant is until during the school holidays. However, it is the intention to have the new Principal begin at the start of Term 3. A Compass notification will be sent to families as soon as we are informed.

Welcome Ms Bronchinetti

Next week will be Mrs Beaumont’s final week before she takes Family Leave to have her second baby. We wish Mrs Beaumont and her family all the very best and hope she has a little time to rest up before the new arrival. We would like to welcome Ms Zoe Bronchinetti who will be replacing Mrs Beaumont while she is on leave. Ms Bronchinetti has already spent the day on Tuesday with the Year 1/2 team planning for Term 3 and will be spending the day with Mrs Beaumont and MU1 tomorrow to have the opportunity to meet the class.

Somers Camp

We have just received notification from Somers Camp that this year the camp will be running from November 19th until 27th November. Unfortunately the camp does clash with our Year 5 Urban Camp. This does not prevent our students from putting in an Expression of Interest to attend Somers Camp, but they will need to give some consideration, that if accepted to Somers, they will miss out on our camp. Below is the information put out by Somers Camp. If you would like to put in an ‘Expression of Interest’ for your Year 5/6 child to attend, please hand it to the office by Friday 19th July (end of first week of Term 3).

  • DATES: 19/11/2019 to 27/11/2019
  • COST: $260.00 - includes transport, accommodation and pocket money.

Somers Camp is situated on Westernport Bay, 80km from Melbourne (Melway Map Ref 193 H9).

The camp provides an opportunity for social interaction between children drawn from many schools and presents a variety of challenging situations through outdoor education and contact with the local environment. The nine day commitment is essential if the social aims are to be achieved.

Scouts Victoria

Congratulations to Aloysius from 1st  Woodend Joey Scouts who achieved his Promise Challenge award and Noah from 2nd Woodend Scout Troop who achieved his Grey Wolf award recently.

To attain the top award in Scouting reflects initiative in tackling this challenge, sustained effort over many months, plus self-discipline, teamwork and leadership.
