Winter Veg Produce Stall

  • 3.15-3.45 pm, next Monday, 21 June
  • School main gate, High Street

The children have had so much success in the Woodend Community Children’s Garden that we’re running a produce stall.  Kids take pride in eating the fruits of their labour, so come along and buy some rhubarb, spinach, kale and other yummy winter greens and herbs, to cook up at home. All funds raised will be go back into the development of the garden.

ONLY 1 WEEK TO GO!!!

Plant Label Art Competition

Restoration of the Woodend Community Children’s Garden is well underway. In Spring we will be putting in an indigenous plant garden. This garden will form habitat for animals, birds, insects and reptiles, while showcasing native plants that grow in Woodend. Each plant species will have an informative label next to it, which together will form an educational, self-guided tour of Woodend indigenous vegetation.

Text for the labels will be provided by botanist, Nicole Middleton, but we would like a student's artwork to be used as the label background. The labels will be professionally printed by Macedon Ranges Signs, so the winning artwork will be on display permanently.

Competition brief:

  • Create an artwork that can be used as the background for plant labels in the Woodend Community Children’s Garden
  • Use A4 size paper or card, landscape orientation (ie. on it’s side)
  • Use any media you wish (paint, collage, pencil, text, crayon, etc)
  • One entry per student
  • Neatly write your name and class in grey lead pencil on the back
  • Place in to the box at the school office by 3.30 pm Wed 26 June.

Native species in the garden will include wattles, black gum, banksia, river bottle brush, peas, tea trees, mother shield fern, tussock and kangaroo grass, wandering postman, cut-leaf daisies and lots more (see Woodend Landcare Plant List). You might like to research these online or borrow some books from the library to see what they look like and include them in your art work.

The winner will be announced at School assemble and in the newsletter.
