From the Desk of the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers, Staff and Students, and Friends of Mount Alvernia College

Last time I wrote my article for News and Views, I focussed on what I had learnt the previous week, so this time I looked at what had surprised me this week so here we go:

On Monday, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Meet the Principal Zoom meeting with potential parents and students.  As well as being surprised that it worked so well, I was proud of Mrs Camilla Horn and the College Captains for the filming of the various important places around the College.  We had some lovely remarks and some very insightful questions from the young women who want to find out more about the College.

This week is Laudato si' Week, named in recognition of the importance of the environment and our role as part of this earth.  Mr Richard Rogusz led us through reflections and filmed various people - me included - about what La Foresta means to the college community.  The video is beautiful, and we surprised students and staff with this in Assembly on Thursday.  Virtually, of course!!!

On Tuesday I surprised myself by getting through a four-and-a-half meeting without having crossed eyes, and was also surprised at the amount of work that was covered.  I am getting so used to Teams or Zoom meetings and I will not be surprised if we can use these mediums to cut down on transport costs.  It will certainly help keep our skies clearer.

On Wednesday, the College Leadership Team held the premiere of Mr Rogusz’s video on Laudato si'.  It was absolutely perfect and so many little surprises were contained within, including Mr Callum Burberry and the chickens, Mrs Marissa Burtenshaw from La Cucina, and Mr Cameron West from the sustainability aspect of our recycling processes.  One forgets - or at least I do - that we are doing so much to be attentive to the needs of our environment and we should be happy with that.

I have no doubt that surprises will abound next week as we return to one community.  I am anxious to hear how everyone is feeling about returning to something vaguely normal when staff and students are working here at the College.  There will be smiles all round.

Thank you for your continuing support of all at the College.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Pax et bonum.

Kerrie
