Teacher of the Week

Emma Lumsden

We’re really proud of all our teaching and support staff and the way they are adapting to our new learning environment. Staff are working as a cohesive team; they are experimenting with new approaches, are sharing ideas and resources and are doing everything they can to make this as engaging and accessible for students. Each week we will profile one staff member who is doing an outstanding job, based on nominations from students.

This week’s Teacher of the Week is Ms Lumsden! Our resident poet, Ms Ryder Barnes, described her colleague perfectly in this poem:

Ms Lumsden is the best

She teaches from the heart

Although she nails humanities

Her primary subject is Art

She always plans her lessons

With everyone in mind

With lots of fun activities

So no one falls behind

She works above and beyond

To ensure her class is ace

She’s always super happy

With a big smile on her face

We really are quite lucky

To have someone like this

So thank you Emma Lumsden

School is better with you Miss.

Ms Lumsden’s students are very lucky to have such a dedicated, creative and considerate teacher. You only have to look at some of her student’s incredible work, as featured in this newsletter, to realise that Ms Lumsden is amazing.

Here’s what some of her students had to say:

Ms Lumsden has been very helpful throughout this remote learning experience. Always greeting us with a cheerful attitude and presenting solutions to our problems. Ms is reliable during a time where it counts, it is very reassuring to have her as a teacher during this time- Ruby Parr

I think Mrs Lumsden is doing a fantastic job of making sure we have multiple options for ceramics. She’s given us the option of written tasks and or tasks when we can actually create something 3-D if we wish. The links to all the tasks are straight forward and the instructions are easy to follow. She’s also hyper aware at how different remote learning is and it’s drowning us in work. She has enough tasks to keep us busy but does not overwhelm us too much

Ms Lumsden has been choosing fun and hands-on activities. I think it is fun because it gives us a break from sitting at our computers and typing. I have emailed her a couple of times and she has emailed me back to help me.
