Classroom News Year P -2

Wow! The end of  Week 4 already...the term is flying by!

We have been working on our fine motor muscles to help us hold pencils correctly and cut things easily. The children think that we are just ‘playing’ but we have activities designed to target those important finger muscles that are fun too.

We have started our Play is the Way program this week with a game called Piccadilly Circus. Children work as a team to pass the ball to each member of the grade as quickly as possible whilst learning everyone’s names. There needs to  be lots of co-operation, team work and concentration to complete the task successfully.

We have established a set of classroom rules and made a book that the children have illustrated. We have been working on how using all of our senses helps us to learn better and will be starting work on having a positive growth mindset and a can do attitude!

In Literacy we have been concentrating on learning the letter names. Lots of children can say/sing the alphabet but are not able to identify both the lower case and capital letters out of order. Some practise at home will be beneficial. We have also started our writing genre of recounts and have written about the holidays and swimming.

Our Maths time has had a number focus, learning how to recognise and write the numbers to 10 and count to 100. We have been making and interpreting class graphs.

Debbie and Sandra from Loch Kinder came up to visit the children and the kids were very excited to see them. We are planning a visit down there soon. We also had our buddies come for a visit and interview us to make a Buddy Book for our classroom and to take us out for a game of SPOTTO in the playground.
