Welcome

Week 6, Term 2, 2020

Dear Parent and Carers,

I hope you all had a great weekend. It was certainly gorgeous weather wise, and I hope you took the opportunity to do some outdoor activity like gardening or walking.

On Wednesday, you will receive comprehensive document that will outline advice about:

  • RETURN TO SCHOOL
  • HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVICE FOR RETURNING TO ONSITE LEARNING.

This advice comes from Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) and it is the Principals responsibility to make the school based decisions required for our School. You will receive this via skoolbag so please ensure you read the important information that will be outlined in the document.

Following advice from the Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government and the Catholic Education Commissions of Victoria Ltd (CECV) have advised that school can begin a phased return to onsite schooling:

In the first stage, students in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 will return to school from Tuesday 26th May.

To support all school staff to prepare for this transition, Monday 25th May, will be a student free day.

In the second stage of our return to onsite schooling, all other year levels Years 3-6  will return to school on Tuesday 9th June.

For a full comprehensive detail of the advice, please refer to the full letter emailed to you on May 13th, 2020.

The Bishops of Victoria have released a pastoral letter with information regarding the reopening of churches in Victoria. Please take a moment to read this letter.

Out Of School Hours Monday May 25th - Pupil Free Day:

If you require this service on Monday, 25th May, Camp Australia will be operating from 8:00am - 6:00pm. Please make a booking via Camp Australia website.

Pupil Free Day

Wednesday, June 3rd will be a Pupil Free Day. All St Fidelis Staff will be working on the Review process on this day. If we are still remote learning the teachers will have no contact with the children on this day, if we have returned to school the school will be closed to students on this day.

Whole School Prayer

Thank you to everyone for continuing to support our Whole School Prayer on Facebook each Friday Morning. It is certainly not the same as having you all gathered in the Hall, but it is pleasing to know that so many families tune in and pray with their children as a family. The opportunity to pray together as a family is a special time that maybe, remote learning has provided. God works in many ways, we just need to be awake and recognise this. Thank you to all the children, staff, and parents who participated in Fun Friday by wearing a Beanie. The photos are amazing!!! So many lovely Beanies!!! This week the next popular suggestion from the children was to wear footy/ soccer/sports colours. So let’s join in and make the effort to continue with our Fun Fridays.

Works around the School

Earlier this year I engaged a Tree Arborist to inspect all our trees on our school grounds. This is an essential report to ensure all our trees are in good condition and safe to have on our property. The report indicated that some of our trees required pruning or chopping down for safety reasons. These works were carried out last week whilst the children were not at school.

Winter School Uniform Term 2 and Term 3

Please ensure that your children are in the correct Winter School Uniform. As per our current school uniform policy, the Bomber jacket does not replace the woollen jumper. The Bomber jacket can be worn over the top of the woollen jumper for extra warmth.

If you require second hand uniform, please contact the office and we will arrange a time for you to purchase some uniform at a convenient time. If you require new uniform PSW has will reopen this Wednesday 20 May. Please read the attached advertisement.

ENROLMENTS 2021

As I have mentioned over the last couple of newsletters this is a key enrolment period for St Fidelis Catholic Primary School. We are asking all families in the school to help support us at this time. The school has a Facebook page and a twitter page.

We are asking all families to:

  • Like  the St Fidelis social media pages (retweet St Fidelis Tweets , Instagram )
  • SHARE Facebook page to friends/family on your social media and on any kinder /childcare groups

In addition if you know of any families in your neighbourhood that have children  commencing school in 2021, can you encourage them to give me a call, particularly if they are uncertain of which Primary School to send their child. I am more than happy to answer any of their questions and offer them a one on one school tour. Thank you for your support with this as the best form of advertising is verbal recommendations. (Word Of Mouth)

School Fees:

We are still accepting School Fees if you would like to come in person to school, however, many families have asked for bank details for direct debit. If any families need to discuss alternative arrangements for the payment of fees please contact me directly.  I have included the Bank details for your ease of payment:

Please read the following farewell message from the Jackman family:

Dear St Fidelis community,

We have decided to pick up and move to the other side of the city to be near family and friends. Our last day of enrolment at St Fidelis will be this Fri, 22 May. Since we won’t have a chance to say goodbye to many people in person we wanted to send out a farewell message to you all. Thank you for being such a lovely school community over the past 3+ years! The teachers, professional staff, and families have all been so welcoming and supportive, and we will miss you all very much. We have also been part of the parish for around 7 years and will greatly miss the broader parish community. Please look us up if you find yourself in the Bentleigh area!

With all best wishes,

The Jackman family — Angie, James, Oliver (3/4 BF), Amelia (1/2 VC), and Elliot
