Prep News

What a whirlwind of a Term we have had in Prep. We are so proud of all of our students for constantly demonstrating their resilience, persistence and personal best work on a daily basis. We are incredibly grateful to all of the Prep families for supporting our students through an entire term of remote learning. As teachers, we have had such a positive experience working in a team with our students, their families and education support staff.

This term we were very excited to help the Preps celebrate their 100th day of school. We had lots of fun coming together on Zoom to share wacky hats, colourful costumes and craft projects all related to the number 100. We had a virtual scavenger hunt and danced along with one of our favourite counting songs. It was fantastic to see the students' smiling faces and excitement throughout the celebration, despite not being able to come together face-to-face.

The teachers have been so proud to see the dedication and effort students have been putting into their work, particularly their fairy tale stories. Our students carefully planned their settings and characters, before writing their own original stories. These fairy tales have been completed with colourful illustrations and front covers. We have been very impressed with the range of interesting characters and creative plot lines. We have included just a few examples of the incredible work we have received.

Before we all enjoy a much needed rest, we would like to thank all the parents, grandparents and other family members who have worked so hard to ensure our Preps have stayed connected to their classmates during this very unusual time. We cannot wait to get back into the classroom next term for face-to-face learning and some much needed social interaction. We are looking forward to the many fun topics of learning as we begin the countdown to Christmas (how crazy). We wish everyone a safe and happy school holiday period and we will see you in the classroom very soon!

Level 3/4

What a huge term we have had! The Level 3/4 team are so very proud of everything we have achieved together. Our students have been flexible, funny, hard working and resilient.

They have been supported beautifully by their parents and families and we would like to say a huge thank you to our school community for making our jobs so much easier.

Our daily Zoom meetings have been entertaining! It has been wonderful to see so many bright and enthusiastic faces, ready for learning each day. The students have engaged with their peers and teachers in small group Zooms and it has been awesome to have more social and educational contact with them.

We have included a range of work samples to showcase our learning in Level 3/4 this term. Well done everyone, awesome job!

We hope you have a fabulous holiday, it may not be the kind of Spring break we usually enjoy, but it will be a well deserved rest and an opportunity to spend quality time with our families. We cannot wait to see all of our students again next term, initially in a Remote Learning setting, but face to face in Week Four on October 26th. See you then everyone!

Kind regards,

The Level 3/4 Team:

Carolyn Allan, Clare McCandlish, Llinos Poole and Vanessa Saffin

Level 5/6

Wow! What a massive Term! We are immensely proud of our Level 5/6 students and their continued resilience, motivation and determination. We would like to give a massive round of applause to our incredible Level 5/6 families for their continued support and the guidance they have given our students throughout the remote learning phases that we have faced. While remote learning has had its challenges everyone has taken on a positive, team approach to make the best of our situation, proving just how fabulous our Rolling Hills Primary School community is.

This Term, the Level 5/6 Team welcomed Joe Reilly aboard for his final teaching rounds for his study. We are so thankful for the positive energy, enthusiasm and contributions that Mr Reilly brought to our Level 5/6 community and thank him very much for all of his efforts. We hope to see you again in the future!

Term 3 saw some fabulous work submitted as Learning Task items. For Reading, students focused on responding to a range of comprehension activities by searching for and using information from texts. For Writing, students focused on developing a Biography on a person of their choice. We saw some fabulous pieces developed about sporting heroes, leaders, celebrities and those who have been important historical icons. For Mathematics, students focused on applying their skills and knowledge to a selection of questions encompassing fractions, decimals and percentages. For Inquiry, students developed a Passion Project, exploring something that they are passionate about in an in-depth investigation before exploring the histories of Australian Bushrangers.

We have met with our Grade 6 students regarding their upcoming Graduation and have began to think creatively about what this might look like in order to give them the special send off that they deserve. We distributed a parent survey to explore the ideas of families also - this survey is still open so be sure to follow the link in your Compass newsfeed and access this survey to share your thoughts. When great minds come together and collaborate, magic always happens. We ask that students find a baby photo, a Prep photo (if they attended a different school to RHPS) and a family photo over the holidays to send through to Mrs Layton for collation for our traditional Grade 6 Graduation slideshow. We also attached to the newsfeed a student profile to complete which will be included in our Grade 6 Year Book, if these could be returned to your child/ren's classroom teacher as soon as possible that would be much appreciated.

We hope that you all have a restful and fun holiday, it is very much well-deserved. We cannot wait to have you all back at school from October 26th and we look forward to a wonderful, energised and creative finish to a year which has taken on many shapes and forms.

All our best,

The Level 5/6 Team:

Brendan Van Haaster, Mel Layton, Rachel Boyle, Damien Smith and Mykaela Hodgett.
