Senior School Report
As educators, parents, and mentors, we all strive to empower students to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives. One crucial aspect of this journey is encouraging students to research and explore future careers. The significance of this endeavour cannot be overstated, as it plays a pivotal role in shaping their academic choices, personal growth, and overall life satisfaction.
This term many of our senior students will be focusing on career options and educational pathways. Our Year 12s are almost at the end of their journey and are beginning to select specific courses or work options beyond secondary school. This is an exciting time in their lives with the conclusion of school drawing very near.
Our Year 10s and 11s have begun fine tuning their course selection for 2024. Students have been assessing what their personal interests and goals are and aligning their subjects accordingly. With guidance they have looked at future careers and what is required to work in those industries. Having a defined destination in mind provides students with a sense of direction and purpose. It motivates them to stay focused, work diligently, and overcome challenges, as they can visualise the opportunities that await them in their chosen career.
Our Year 10 students have been gaining real-world insights through their work experience week. Students chose an area that interested them and found a placement themselves. This took a lot of imitative and students grew in confidence as they went through the process. These real-world insights provide students with a glimpse into the day-to-day realities of different careers. Such experiences help students make realistic and informed decisions about their chosen paths, avoiding misconceptions or unrealistic expectations.
We recently held our Senior School Information evening where students and parents could gain a detailed information about the subjects on offer in Years 10 and 11. Our passionate and knowledgeable teaching staff presented an overview of each subject, highlighting key learning outcomes, assessment methods, and any prerequisites necessary for enrolment. This comprehensive understanding of the subjects should empower our students to select the most suitable options based on their interests, strengths, and aspirations.
Student will also commence the Course Counselling sessions. These personalised sessions provide an opportunity for students and their parents to meet with dedicated course counsellors or teachers. During these sessions, students can discuss their individual academic progress, interests, and future career goals. The counsellors will guide them through the available subject pathways and offer personalised advice to help them create a well-rounded and ambitious course plan.
