Foundation

The Foundation students have been enjoying catching up with their Year 6 buddies this term. This week they enjoyed a picture story book together and then used paper to weave a jumper for a polar bear. The finished pieces looked amazing.

This term the Foundation students are learning about the 'History of Me' in Inquiry. Yesterday the students made their own family tree which included themselves, their parents and their grandparents.

Years 1 and 2

Wow! It is hard to believe that we are already into Week 4 of this term! Everyone has certainly been working hard and we have enjoyed some great learning experiences.

A highlight of the last few weeks has been our inquiry lessons. We have been excited to learn about procedure writing. We began with making fairy bread, then making playdough and also making volcanoes.

When writing a procedure we know we need to include the following:

A title

A list of materials, equipment or ingredients

The steps needed or method.

We understand the importance of having clear and detailed steps and to use language such as first, next, then, after or finally.

We have developed our confidence when working with numbers and number patterns. The Year 2s are enjoying challenging themselves when coming up with different ways to get to the same answer and using what we already know to help us create solutions. The Year 1s are loving their weekly kahootz and are looking forward to learning more about fractions in the coming weeks.

In Literacy the Year 1s are learning lots about habitats and how different animals adapt and survive in the various habitats they live in. The Year 2s are expanding their knowledge of early world civilisations. We are working hard on our sentences to ensure they are not 'running' sentences that go on and on and on.

We have learnt lots of different letter combinations that make various sounds when spelling and reading.

Everyone has been grateful to try the new tray tables when working on the floor. These allow us to be organised and prepared with everything we need for learning including our whiteboards, iPads, workbooks and writing materials.

It was wonderful to see the smiles, laughs and looks of amazement at the Magic with Tam show last week. We witnessed and joined in lots of fun, used our imaginations and interacted as a positive and respectful audience.

I wonder what exciting adventures the next few weeks will bring in the 1/2 area? Stay tuned!
