Lightning Premiership šŸ†

On Wednesday 9th August, two Numurkah Primary School netball teams and one football team played at Vic Park Yarrawonga, and one softball team played at Sacred Heart PS in the 2023 Lightning Premiership. It was wonderful to see our Numurkah Primary School values of Respect, Caring, Learning and Responsibility being demonstrated by all of our students throughout the day. Hereā€™s what our senior school reporters wrote about their experiences:

Ā šŸ„ŽSoftballers Bring Home the Shield!šŸ„Ž

Todayā€™s the day weā€™ve all been waiting for: the 9th of August - itā€™s time for softball! We arrived at our destination. We were ready to play some softball. We all got warmed up and started off strong, winning our first game due to our amazing fielding, pitching and teamwork on the field.

Time for our next game. Another win! Our amazing game strategies, learned and practised throughout the season, paying off. Every softballer on our team paid very good attention to the game ā€“ nothing got past them! Our last game saw six home runs because of our great batters. When we swapped over, our bowler kept the pressure on and the opposition kept striking out.Ā

Then we waited very patiently for the announcementā€¦YES! We MADE IT TO FINALS! Time to play the Grand Final against Cobram PS.Ā Three home runs including the biggest homerun I have ever seen by our softball captain Angus N. Everyone cheered. WE WON! The Lightning Premiership Softball Shield has come home to Numurkah Primary School for 2023!

šŸNetball šŸ

Our teams played several games against other primary schools including Katunga, Strathmerton and Cobram. In one game played the Year 4-5 team, Emily was on first as GK making sure the opposing GS did not get the ball once. Another highlight was when we played Sacred Heart Yarrawonga: our defence was the best, Harper threw some fantastic goals, Eloise was great intercepting the ball, and our game would not have been the same without our typical NPS teamwork!

Highlights from the Year 5-6 team included really accurate goal shooting from Tamika, great passes from everyone including Georgie and Harmony, and all team members ā€˜reading the courtā€™ to spread themselves out and move the ball towards our goal. It was an awesome day!

šŸ‰FootballšŸ‰

In the Lightning Premiership football games, the first game we played was against St Josephā€™s PS Numurkah. The back line was the strongest part of the game the ball only went past us once. St Josephā€™s kicked a goal, but we were still up by four goals and in the end we won the game. Unfortunately, we lost our second game but won our final game and best of all our team made it to the Grand Final for the first time in about twenty years! We put up a good fight, but sadly we lost by two goals. But what a fantastic day we had!Ā
