Principal's Report

I extend a warm welcome back as we commence Term 3. I hope everyone has had a restful and rejuvenating holiday. Term 3 brings with it a variety of activities, festivities, and new undertakings that I am excited to share with you all.

First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated and passionate teachers, support staff, and students. Your unwavering commitment to academic excellence and personal growth has been instrumental in making our school a place of learning, creativity, and inclusivity.

Mobile Device Restriction Trial

As technology continues to evolve, mobile devices have become an integral part of our daily lives. While they offer numerous benefits, they also present certain challenges, especially when it comes to maintaining student engagement and attentiveness during class time. To address these concerns and foster a more productive learning experience, we have decided to introduce a trial period for a non-educational mobile device ban within the school premises.

The primary objective of this trial is to evaluate the impact of reduced mobile device usage on academic performance, classroom participation, and overall student well-being. We believe that by limiting distractions and promoting face-to-face interactions, we can create a more focused and enriching learning environment for all our students.

Uniform Policy Adherence

I would like to reiterate the importance of adhering to our school’s uniform policy which plays a significant role in maintaining a positive and disciplined learning environment at Glen Innes High School. The Department of Education, P&C and SRC support the wearing of school uniforms by students and the upholding of high standards of dress by all students. Students who continue to wear clothes not deemed suitable without reasonable explanation will be placed on a ‘Loss of Privileges' list and an email sent home. Students placed on this list may have the following privileges withdrawn:

*  Attending sporting excursions

*  Attending school socials

*  Attending non-mandatory excursions

*  Viewing sporting events held at school

*  Playground restrictions

Students can easily avoid losing the above privileges by wearing full school uniform daily. A copy of the uniform policy and expectations is available on our website: https://gleninnes-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/school-uniform1.html. If you require financial assistance or would to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact me.

NAIDOC WEEK      24th - 28th of July

NAIDOC Week is not only an opportunity to learn about the traditions and customs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, but also a chance to reflect on the importance of reconciliation, respect, and recognition of their contributions to our society. We encourage all students, staff, and parents to actively participate in the NAIDOC Week celebrations. As a community, we honour and pay respects to the culture, heritage, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

EDUCATION WEEK

31st of July - 4th of August

We are excited to announce the upcoming Education Week 2023, an annual celebration that honours the remarkable achievements of our schools, dedicated teachers, and talented students in New South Wales. This year's Education Week holds special significance as we mark a historic milestone - 175 years of public education in NSW!

Our Educational week assembly will be held on Friday 04/07/23 at 10.30 in the Town Hall. All community is encouraged and welcomed to attend. Both Our Education week and NAIDOC week activities are happening in around the school next week. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and your emails.

NAPLAN

As you receive your child's NAPLAN results, we encourage you to celebrate their achievements, regardless of the outcome. These results are a snapshot of their abilities at a particular moment, and it's important to remember that growth and progress occur at different rates for each individual.

If your child's results demonstrate areas of strength, celebrate their hard work and encourage them to continue nurturing their talents. These achievements are a testament to their dedication and determination to excel in their studies.

Conversely, if the results identify areas where your child may benefit from further support or improvement, please rest assured that our school is committed to providing the necessary resources and guidance to help them reach their full potential. Remember, setbacks are part of the learning process, and we believe in turning challenges into opportunities for growth.
