Learning Community 1

Jane Guy, Jess Beilby and Kate Stoll

Prep Guy

We have had a very busy week in Prep Guy, learning and having fun all week. In Reading we continued our work on fiction texts, learning all about characters and how they speak. As you can see by our photos, we had a lot of fun changing our voices to be characters in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In Writing and Spelling we continued our work on word families and spelling the most common words. In Maths we had so much fun gathering data on Clinkers ( yes the lollies) estimating, counting with tally marks and graphing the data we collected. We also celebrated our 100 days at school with a class party on the theme of 100. We welcome Ms Nuttall to our room for four weeks. Maddi is studying to be a teacher at Swinburne University and is completing her placement with us.

Prep Guy Student of the week

Congratulations to Tommy who was chosen by his class mates as this week's Student Of The Week. His peers said he was respectful for playing with everyone and wanting to help them when they felt sad or lonely.

Grade One /Two

It's been a fabulous week in Grade One Two and we are loving all the hands on activities. In reading we have continued to consolidate our knowledge of syllables, vowels and homophones. We have played games and worked collaboratively to understand the meanings of new vocabulary.

In writing we have had a focus on punctuation and cause and effect. We have written sentences and identified language that helped us to work out whether a statement was a fact or opinion.

In maths we have been learning about money. We can count and add monetary amounts and made some creative 'money monsters' where we had to add coins and notes together. Here are some photos.

Student of The Week:

Congratulations to Geoffrey who is the student achiever in 1/2Beilby. Geoffrey has worked so incredibly hard with his writing and is a valued and respected member of our community. Mrs Beilby is very proud of Geoffrey's efforts in class and loves seeing his beaming smile every morning.

Congratulations to Addi in 1/2 Stoll. Addi received her award for always following our school values, for working super hard in maths and showing exceptional resilience. Addi has a great attitude and a pleasure to have in our grade. Her grade and Miss Stoll are so proud of her.

NED Incursion:

Next Thursday students in grade Prep to grade Four will have an incursion. Ned - a positive mindset performance, is an incursion that works on a 'pay it forward.' process. It is free because the school previous to us bought enough yo yo's to pay for our school to have the incursion. So, we are thrilled to have such a wonderful and educational incursion at our school. To ensure that the next school receives the same opportunity, yo yo's, aligned with NED - a positive mindset, will be for sale after the incursion.
