Principal's Report

In Our Staffroom

This marks my first newsletter since being appointed as Principal of Port Melbourne Primary School. I am honoured to have been selected by the Panel as our next Principal and feel privileged to be leading such a wonderful school, serving such a vibrant and engaged community.

I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support I have received during my tenure as Acting Principal. The familiar faces, the shared vision, and the warmth of our community make this a wonderful job. There won’t be any major changes in our day-to-day operations following my appointment, I alongside the school leadership team and school council, will keep pursuing continuous improvement in the education we provide our students.

In Our Classrooms

Principal's Art Prize

As I settle into my new office, I'd like to decorate it with the vibrant creativity that fills our school. I'm excited to announce the inaugural "Principal's Art Prize", an initiative to celebrate our students’ artistic talent. Under the guidance of our Art Teacher, Ms Emily, students are encouraged to submit A4 art pieces. Our Art captains will be shortlisting the entries, and our school captains will have the honor of selecting three winners across different year levels. The winning art will proudly be displayed in my office, a testament to the talent and dedication of our students. Furthermore, winners will receive a voucher to acknowledge their achievements. Stay tuned for the winners' announcement at an upcoming assembly.

Year 6 Camp

I know that our Year 6 students had a wonderful time at their recent camp. Thank you to the teachers, leaders, and education support staff who made this possible. A special thanks too to our parent volunteers – your efforts and commitment are so valued.

Gala Days

Our senior students are gearing up for the upcoming Gala Days, a fantastic showcase of their athletic talents. However, it's disheartening to note that a handful of our students haven't been exemplifying important school values like Kindness and Respect at recent Gala Days. We will be emphasising the importance of these values in the coming weeks. It's crucial for our students to embody these values, especially when they are ambassadors of our school. Any deviation from our standards may lead to non-participation in these events.

In Our Community

Respectful Behaviour within our School Community

Included separately in this newsletter is some important information about the Department of Education’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy. I strongly encourage you to acquaint yourself with this policy. It embodies the core values of our school community and outlines crucial standards we must uphold in all of our interactions.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our annual Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is now live. We are required at a minimum to open this to a sample of parents. However, to capture a comprehensive view of our community's sentiments, we've decided to invite all parents to participate. I urge each of you to invest some time in this as it offers a genuine reflection of our school atmosphere. Your feedback is pivotal, and we will utilise it for the betterment of our community.

Community Events

The community is abuzz with numerous parent-led happenings this term. One of the spotlight events is the PFA's Trivia Night in tonight. Known as a highlight of the PMPS Social Calendar, it promises to be a fantastic evening. I'm looking forward to connecting with many of you there. As a school, we are grateful for your generous donations and support of this event.

I’d also like to acknowledge and celebrate the significant contribution of the parent volunteers who have organised this evening. It’s no exaggeration to say that hundreds of hours have been dedicated to this event. Without their relentless efforts, it wouldn't be the success we anticipate. A big thank you to them.
