Principal's Views

From Mandy O'Mara

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Epping Views Primary School,

It’s hard to believe we have reached the middle of Term 3 already. It has been an educationally rewarding term to date and we have lots more to achieve in the coming weeks.

The Prep students celebrated 100 days of school last week and how amazing that was! The students dressed up to celebrate the occasion and parents were invited in to view the wonderful expo of work.

Our Year 6 students attended camp and those who didn’t attend got to attend some exciting excursions.

We had a memorable visit from Carlton greats Charlie Curnow and Paddy Dow and to enhance the FIFA World Cup excitement we played a teacher vs. student soccer match.

We are now well and truly in the planning phase for 2024 and as such it is important that we have an accurate indication of our student numbers for next year.  If you are one of our existing families and plan on relocating at the end of the year or leaving us for other reasons, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can best support the transition of your child to another school setting.

Prep enrolments for 2024 closed last week. If you or someone you know has submitted an enrolment application you will have received an acceptance letter. We will be communicating the Prep transition process with you in the coming weeks.

In recent times the Department of Education has developed a Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy This policy describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.

There are also resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources. You can find the policy and these resources here.

You may also see a  new poster up around our school, promoting positive behaviour.

As a school we are keen to develop positive relationships with our parents and volunteers. We welcome your  involvement and support. As a staff we are always willing to meet with you, but we do ask that you make an appointment.

This week we are hosting a Parent Helpers Program and encourage you to register to be involved.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All parents / caregivers / guardians have been selected to participate in this year’s survey.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

You may have heard from your children that the sick bay has been relocated to a larger space. The school nurse Catherine and our First Aid member Inass are very proud of their new space. We are very lucky to have such wonderful staff operating our sick bay.

As we move to develop the area where the Pink portables were located we are seeking parent ideas on what  that space could look like. To  complete the survey  click here

Keep in mind that  we do not have the hundreds of thousands of dollars it would take to construct a building, so we cannot build a gym, swimming pool or science wing. Some ideas already suggested include; a quiet space, an environmental area with another chicken coop, vegie gardens and a place for hands on gardening etc., a stage, a pergola, an amphitheatre.

We look forward to your suggestions.
